Television star Dheeraj Dhoopar who is currently seen in the reality show Lock Upp may be admired for his screen presence, fashion sense and successful career, but he believes his greatest strength lies in the support system he has at home. During his appearance on Honestly, Why Not With MNL Season 2, hosted by Hoonur Talent Head Mohammed Nagaman Lateef, the actor opened up about his marriage, career, fashion, competition and the lessons he has learned over two decades in the entertainment industry.
Speaking about the role his wife has played in his journey, Dheeraj said she remains the person whose opinion he values the most. "I've been in this industry for over 20 years, and I always say that she's one of the biggest reasons I'm where I am today. I love taking her advice on everything, from choosing projects to deciding what to wear or even what to say. It's not that I can't take decisions myself, but I genuinely value her opinion." The actor also admitted that marriage transformed him as a person and helped him become calmer over the years. "When I met her, I was a very impatient person. She changed me completely. Today, I'm much calmer and I listen to other people's perspectives before reacting. My wife, my children and everyone who came into my life after I moved to Mumbai have made me a better person." Known for his impeccable style, Dheeraj also revealed that fashion has always been a personal passion. Although he works with a stylist, he said every look begins with his own ideas. "I work with a stylist, but the ideas are always mine. I decide the colours, the cuts, whether I want to wear a suit or a jacket, and my stylist executes that vision." Recalling his wedding look, the actor explained why he chose simplicity over extravagance. "I've worn every kind of sherwani in around 70 or 80 on-screen weddings. For my real wedding, I wanted something elegant and simple that would still stand out." Dheeraj also addressed the long-standing comparison between television and Bollywood actors. While acknowledging that television actors once had fewer opportunities when it came to fashion collaborations, he believes the landscape has changed significantly. "After Kundali Bhagya, there were public events where Bollywood actors were present, but I received louder cheers from the audience. That made me realise television has its own power. Earlier, designers weren't willing to work with TV actors, but thankfully that has changed." Despite seeing many of his contemporaries branch out into films and OTT, Dheeraj said he has never believed in comparing careers. "I've never compared myself with anyone. They're doing well in their careers, and I'm happy with mine. Sometimes the media creates comparisons, but when we meet, we simply enjoy each other's company. There's no competition." The actor also shared his perspective on intimate scenes, saying that he approaches them professionally and only if they are essential to the story. "I've hardly done any intimate scenes in my career. If a scene genuinely serves the story and is filmed aesthetically, I have no problem doing it." With over 20 years in the industry, Dheeraj Dhoopar's candid conversation reflected not only his confidence as an actor but also the values that have kept him grounded throughout his journey. From trusting his instincts in fashion to relying on his family's support and refusing to compare himself with others, the actor believes staying authentic has been the key to his success.More Articles
