Accept it or not, much before the release of Delhi Belly and Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap, it was clear that the former will take a big lead over the latter on Friday. The major factor being, the Aamir Khan brand and the interesting promos that promised that Delhi Belly will be a fun film. Well, nothing much has changed after the release also.
Delhi Belly opened very well across the country in around 1200 screens and reported 70% to 90% occupancy. The opening response at single screens was in 50% to 60% range, which is also a good figure, considering the number of screens this film has opened at. The business seems to be growing rapidly with every show, with the youth celebrating Delhi Belly in a big way. It is expected that Delhi Belly will earn excellent numbers on Day 1 and Saturday and Sunday numbers are expected to be record breaker.
Delhi Belly amounts to be Rs 30 cr approx. to its maker, which is again on the higher side, however the terrefic response from the people on day one, shows that recovering the money back will not be a problem for the makers.
Though Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap also passed through good reviews, but the wave of Delhi Belly has badly affected the opening of the film. The opening numbers of Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap (which opened at approx 1000 screens) ranged between 15% - 20% - 25%. However, a few centres reported better occupancy, especially the single screens in the Hindi heartland. The reports are good, but the appreciation needs to translate into numbers.
The advantage with Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap is that the film was made under a reasonable budget, amounting to 21 to 22 cr (inclusive of Amitabh Bachchan and Puri Jagannath's remuneration). The Satellite Rights and Music Rights of the film has fetched Rs 14.75 cr and the remaining amount has to be recovered from India and Overseas market, Home Video and Digital rights, etc. Well, this then doesn't look like a problem. However, good theatrical run is the biggest need.
