Barfi beats Rockstar's first week collection at Box Office

Ranbir Kapoor's latest movie Barfi starring Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D'Cruz in female leads, has topped collection chart at the Indian Box Office sidelining previous releases like Raaz 3, Joker and Ek Tha Tiger. The movie has smashed the first week collection record of Ranbir's last outing Rockstar.

Ranbir's Rockstar was one of the highly talked about movies of 2011 and it had received a grand opening at the Box Office with its first day collection reaching Rs 10 crores nett. Barfi was also much-hyped movie and expected to break this record. But the Anurag Basu directed film scored Rs 9.2 crores on its opening day at the Box Office, thereby falling short to surpass the Rockstar.

But a positive word of mouth spread a magic for Barfi, which picked up well at the collection centres on the following days. Ranbir-Priyanka-Ileana starrer movie scored Rs 34.60 crores nett at the Box Office in the first weekend. It shattered the opening weekend record of Rockstar, which had raked in Rs 33.75 crore net in three days. The breakup of Barfi is Rs 9.2 cr on Fri, Rs 11.5 cr on Sat and Rs 13.9 cr on Sun. The breakup of Rockstar was Rs 10 cr on Fri, Rs 11.25 cr on Sat and Rs 12.50 cr on Sun.

When compared to its first day business, the collection of Rockstar had fallen down by 40% on Monday with its collection reaching Rs 5.75 crore nett. Whereas, Barfi also witnessed a dip in its business on the fourth day, but it was comparatively far better than Rockstar. Barfi continued to do well at the Box Office on following days. The movie cashed in on Ganesh Chathurthi holiday on Wednesday, but suffered big set back on Thursday due to Bharath Bandh.

Rockstar had collected Rs 50 crore at the desi Box Office in the first week. Whereas, Barfi smashed this record in just six days. Ranbir Kapoor's latest movie has collected a total of Rs 60 crore nett in its opening week. Its weekdays' breakup is Rs 6.5 cr on Mon, Rs 6 cr on Tue, Rs 7.25 cr on Wed and Rs 5.65 cr on Thu. Whereas, Rockstar's weekdays' breakup was Rs 5.75 cr on Mon, Rs 4.25 cr on Tue, Rs 3.65 cr on Wed and Rs 3.1 cr on Thu.

Rockstar had received mixed reviews from film critics and a good word of mouth from viewers. Whereas, Barfi got rave reviews from critics and a positive word of mouth from film goers. Barfi has a big threat from Kareena Kapoor's Heroine, which has hit the theatres today. It should be seen whether Heroine would allow Barfi to rock the viewers in the second week or not.
