Chennai Express (7 Days) First Week Collection At Box Office

Bollywood movie Chennai Express, which has been directed by Rohit Shetty, has concluded the first week at the Indian Box Office with a record-breaking collection. The Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer has erased all previous benchmarks and set its own new ones like biggest opener, highest grosser on day 2 and 3, highest grosser in first week and fastest 100 crore grosser.

Most-awaited and highly-talked about movie Chennai Express received an earth-shattering response in the paid previews on Thursday. The action comedy entertainer, which released in 3,500 screens on August 9 on Eid holiday, had a huge amount of advance ticket booking for its opening weekend. With this, the movie registered occupancy in both single screens and multiplexes on Friday and shattered the opening day record of Ek Tha Tiger, which was topping the chart with its collection Rs 32.92.

The business of Chennai Express dropped by 15% on Saturday, but the movie picked up well on Sunday. The movie surpassed Rs 100 crore mark at the Indian Box Office in the first weekend, beating the record of Ek Tha Tiger, which had achieved this figure in five days. On Monday, its collection further dropped by nearly 60% due to the working day for colleges and offices, and it maintained rock-steady on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Trade experts predicted that Chennai Express would collect Rs 30+ crores on Thursday, which was Independence day holiday. Its collection grew up considerably on August 15, but it was not upto the expected mark as it clashed with new release Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara at the domestic Box Office.

Chennai Express has collected Rs 156.7 crores nett at the Indian Box Office in seven days. The movie has became the highest grosser in the first week, smashing the record of Ek Tha Tiger. Its breakup is Rs 6.75 cr in PP on Tue, Rs 33.12 cr on Fri, Rs 28.05 cr on Sat, Rs 32.5 cr on Sun, Rs 12.62 cr on Mon, Rs 11.5 cr on Tue, Rs 12.56 cr on Wed and Rs 19.6 cr on Thu.

Released this Thursday (Aug 15), Akshay Kumar's Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara has snatched many screens from Chennai Express. So the collection of the Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer is expected to slow down in its second week. Will it cross Rs 200 crore mark at the Indian Box Office in the second week? Will it become all time highest grosser, beating 3 Idiots record? Write your prediction in the comment box below.
