Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala's latest production 2 States has garnered public attention for several reasons. Trade experts had predict it to start with a bang at the ticket counters across India. Fitting to its hype, the Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer has got fantastic opening and done superb collection at the Indian Box Office on the first day. It has become the third biggest opener of the year 2014 after Jai Ho and Gunday.
Directed by Abhishek Varman, 2 States is based on Chetan Bhagat's 2009 best seller novel with the same name. It features two young and successful actors like Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, who have won lot of accolades for their performances in Gunday and Highway respectively. Moreover, it is a big-ticket movie produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala, who have shelled out hefty sum on its promotion.
Riding on a huge amount of hype and expectations, 2 States released in 2000 screens in the domestic market and around 400 screens in foreign countries on April 18. The movie registered 80% to 90% occupancy in both single screens and multiplexes across India in the morning show. A positive word of mouth took its business upwards in the later shows on Friday. The movie also garnered good response in the international markets.
The movie 2 States has collected Rs 12.42 crores nett at the Indian Box Office on its first day. Taran Adarsh Tweeted, "#2States is SPECTACULAR in India. Fri Rs 12.42 cr nett [early estimates]. 3rd highest opener of 2014 after #JaiHo and #Gunday." The film has raked in Rs 75.36 lakhs (£ 74,370) in UK, Rs 43.43 lakhs (A$ 77,156) in Australia and Rs 16.70 lakhs (NZ$ 32,274) in New Zealand and these numbers also include its collection in the paid-preview shows on Thursday.
