New
Bollywood
release
Ek
Villain
starring
Sidharth
Malhotra,
Riteish
Deshmukh
and
Shraddha
Kapoor
in
leads,
has
concluded
the
first
week
with
record
breaking
numbers
at
the
Indian
Box
Office.
Having
crossed
Rs
75
crore
mark
in
seven
days,
the
Ekta
Kapoor-produced
movie
has
beaten
the
records
of
big
ticket
movies
like
Holiday
and
Humshakals.
Its
per
screen
average
is
far
better
than
that
of
Salman
Khan's
Jai
Ho.
Ek
Villain
had
been
creating
positive
buzz,
ever
since
it
was
announced.
Its
promos
had
garnered
lot
of
curiosity
for
the
film.
In
addition,
the
makers
had
several
unique
promotional
strategies
for
the
movie.
Amidst
lot
of
hype
and
expectations,
the
film
released
in
2539
screens
in
the
domestic
market
on
June
27
and
received
fantastic
response.
The
film
registered
an
average
of
70%
occupancy
on
Friday.
It
ran
to
packed
houses
in
some
centres
in
urban
areas.
Despite
getting
positive
response
from
the
film
critics
and
viewers,
Ek
Villain
failed
to
show
a
big
leap
on
Saturday.
Instead
of
going
upwards,
its
business
dropped
by
a
small
margin.
But
the
movie
had
a
decent
growth
on
Sunday.
It
was
able
to
cross
Rs
50
crore
mark
at
the
Indian
Box
Office
in
the
first
weekend.
Its
collection
dropped
by
50%
on
Monday
and
it
continued
to
collapse
on
the
following
days.
Ek
Villain
has
collected
Rs
77.75
crores
nett
at
the
Indian
Box
Office
in
the
first
week.
Its
breakup
is
Rs
16.72
cr
on
Fri,
Rs
16.54
cr
on
Sat,
Rs
17.44
cr
on
Sun,
Rs
8.10
cr
on
Mon,
Rs
6.80
cr
on
Tue,
Rs
6.40
cr
on
Wed
and
Rs
5.75
cr
on
Thu.
In
seven
days,
the
film,
which
has
been
made
on
a
whopping
budget
of
Rs
40
crores,
has
recovered
its
production
cost
from
its
theatrical
run
and
earned
a
good
amount
of
profit
share,
which
is
almost
equal
to
its
budget.
In
2014,
Ek
Villain
has
become
the
second
highest
grosser
movie
in
the
first
week
after
Jai
Ho
(Rs
88.58
crores).
The
Mohit
Suri-directed
movie
has
beaten
the
records
of
Akshay
Kumar's
Holiday
and
Saif
Ali
Khan's
Humshakals,
which
have
collected
Rs
68.31
crores
nett
and
Rs
56.23
crores
nett
respectively
at
the
Indian
Box
Office
in
the
first
week.
The
Sidharth
Malhotra,
Riteish
Deshmukh
and
Shraddha
Kapoor
starrer
is
now
fast
heading
towards
Rs
100
crore
in
the
domestic
market.
Ek
Villain
needs
Rs
22+
crores
to
cross
this
magical
mark
and
the
movie
will
achieve
these
numbers
in
its
second
weekend,
even
if
its
business
drops
by
50%.
But
the
film
has
two
new
competitors
like
Bobby
Jasoos
and
Lekar
Hum
Deewana
Dil,
which
are
likely
to
slow
down
its
business
in
its
second
week.
