EXCL! Adipurush Day 1 BO Prediction: Prabhas, Kriti Sanon’s Epic Set For A Historic Opening? Expert Weighs In

Adipurush Day 1 Box Office Prediction: Filmmaker Om Raut's magnum opus Adipurush is tipped to be one of the most expensive Indian movies ever made. With a budget of Rs 500 crore, the fans are eagerly waiting with bated breath to witness the mythological epic on the big screen.
With just a day left for its grand release on Friday, June 16, Adipursh trailer has already created a massive buzz. It is the only release this week, along with Hollywood's superhero film The Flash, which opens a day before. Meanwhile, the advance bookings for the film have begun in full swing and are already full.
Shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu, Adipurush has been dubbed in Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. With a U/A certificate, the film has a runtime of 2 hours and 59 minutes.
As Adipurush is inspired by the Hindu epic Ramayana, Prabhas will be seen as Raghav, Kriti as Janaki, and Saif as Ravana. The film is among the most hyped movies in recent times, and given Prabhas's last few disappointing ventures at the box office, all eyes are on Adipurush. But will it be able to shatter all previous box office records?
Speaking to Filmibeat in an exclusive conversation, film producer and film business expert Girish Johar weighed in on the performance of Adipurush on its opening day.
What are the expectations around Adipurush, and will Prabhas be able to break his previous records?
According to Mr Johar, the film has received an exceptional response. He said, "In the Hindi belt, the path has not cut across ice as conveniently as everyone would like. But with Adipuruh, Prabhas is playing the character of Raja Ramji, which is very dear to the Hindi belt, and that character resonates with a lot of Indian homes."
Prabhas playing Lord Ram will definitely help the movie and further strengthen Adipurush's overall performance, specifically in the northern Hindi-speaking market, he added.
"After Pathaan, there is no major release. This is a major big one. And secondly, summer holidays are there. And thirdly, the film is a family film," Mr Johar remarked.
He then added that "every Indian family would want their kids to also watch these kinds of mythological stories, which further give a lot of learning and insights into Indian culture. So they would also want to, and as a whole, it's a positive expectation."
And how does advance booking look?
"Advance bookings are also quite good. The film is releasing in five languages, and advanced booking in Telugu is extraordinary; Tamil is also decent; and Hindi is also very good, which is a surprise. On the whole, their block bookings are also happening. So it's all coming together during the release. It's a good time," said Mr Johar.
Shedding more details on the number of screens for Adipurush, he added that the film is targeting more than 4000 screens across languages, and theatres have sold over 1.5 lakh tickets. There has also been a lot of bulk booking, which puts the movie on the positive side.
How much will Adipurush collect on its first day?
"Adipurush will comfortably come in the all-time day one top ten list because the buzz is quite good. I'm sure if everything falls into place, it can open up anywhere between 45 to 50 crore plus for all languages combined," Mr Johar exclaimed.
Mentioning that the box office is dynamic and Adiprush is having a very wide release, Mr Johar added, "The film's shows are starting as early as 5:00 a.m. So, if the audience's expectations don't match, it can come down. And if they actually match, it can go ballistic from this particular number also."
While it has to be seen what magic Adipurush creates in theatres, there are no major releases until the end of June. Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani-starrer rom-com Satyaprem Ki Katha and Hollywood biggie Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones: The Dial of Destiny, with both releasing on June 29, Adipurush has ample time at the cinemas.
It will also be interesting to see if Adipurush can beat Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan's opening day collection, which was Rs 57 crore in India.
