Oppenheimer Barbie & Mission Impossible 7 Box Office Update

Box Office Update: Multiplexes across the nation had every reason to celebrate as three Hollywood films - Oppenheimer, Barbie, and Mission Impossible 7 - set the cash registers ringing at the Indian box office. Together, these three movies raked in a total of Rs 78 crore (Rs 92 crore gross) during the weekend, marking one of the biggest non-holiday weekends in the post-pandemic world.

OPPENHEIMER, BARBIE FIRST WEEKEND COLLECTION IN INDIA

Leading the pack was Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, which garnered an impressive net collection of Rs 48 crore in India in just three days of its release.

The success of Oppenheimer is particularly remarkable as it is a documentary on an American physicist, making these numbers extraordinary in the Indian market. This achievement can be attributed to Christopher Nolan's dedicated fan following.

The film opened with Rs 14 crore on Friday, followed by Rs 17 crore on both Saturday and Sunday. It is expected that in the next two days, Oppenheimer will surpass Nolan's previous highest-grossing film in India, The Dark Knight Rises (Rs 56 crore).

The Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling starrer Barbie also made a significant impact at the Indian box office, securing an opening weekend of Rs 18.25 crore. The film witnessed an upward trend during its opening weekend, with collections of Rs 4.50 crore on Friday, Rs 6.50 crore on Saturday, and Rs 7.25 crore on Sunday. Barbie is likely to emerge as a clean hit in India, proving to be the biggest surprise from Hollywood in 2023 thus far. It is projected to achieve a lifetime business in the range of Rs 40 crore.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE BOX OFFICE UPDATE

Meanwhile, Mission Impossible 7, led by Tom Cruise, maintained its steady performance in its second weekend, with collections of Rs 12.25 crore over the three-day period. The film's total collections now stand at Rs 92.50 crore, and it is poised to become Tom Cruise's first Rs 100 crore film in India.

This rare scenario of three consecutive hits from Hollywood showcases the evolution of audience tastes in India over the years and marks a notable milestone in the Indian film market.
