Will Gadar 2 Wave Impact Dream Girl 2? Trade Analyst Shed Light On Ayushmann’s Film’s BO Future | EXCLUSIVE

Remember Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Dream Girl? The movie was a massive hit at the box office and fans were in awe of Ayushmann's performance as the new 'Dream Girl' Pooja. Now after three years, Ayushmann is coming back with Dream Girl 2 and the audience can't keep calm.

Helmed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, the movie has been one of the most anticipated releases of the year and the trailer has certainly left the audience excited. And while Dream Girl 2 is set to hit the theatres on August 25, it will be facing a tough competition from Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel's Gadar 2 and Akshay Kumar's OMG 2.

To note, Gadar 2 has emerged as a massive wave at the box office which has been sweeping away other movies as it has managed to cross Rs 410 cr mark in just 13 days of release. In fact, Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher's Ghoomer failed to survive the impact as well. Amid this, there are speculations if Gadar 2 wave will impact Dream Girl 2 as well.

In an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat, producer and film business expert Girish Johar shed light on Dream Girl 2's box office future. He stated, "Gadar 2 is a tsunami at the box office, the numbers are stupendous and unbelievable which are coming. But the audience for Gadar 2 and the audience for Dream Girl 2 is completely different. Gadar 2 is a complete is a mass entertainer, people in tier 2 and tier 3 onwards are loving the film whereas Dream Girl 2 is an urban, though it feels massy but it is a very multiplex massy kind of a film. So there is a differentiator in the target audience for both films. Having said that, Gadar 2 wave is huge, people are talking about it, it has a nostalgia also attached to it".

He further emphasised that Dream Girl 2 has a chance if only it manages to win hearts. Girish Johar stated, "I think 2 weeks have already been passed and Gadar 2 will be in week 3 and I honestly feel that there is space for Dream Girl 2 to at least have a chance and stand upon its merit. What happened with Ghoomer should not happen with Dream Girl 2 because Ghoomer was right in the midst of the storm where it was building up. Ghoomer is a brilliant film, had it been delayed and marketed a little more, it would have definitely brought some more numbers at the box office. Here right now the peak has been plateued, it has reached for Gadar 2. Now it is amassing whatever is left over it has. I feel there is a chance for Dream Girl 2 to stand at the BO. But how strongly it holds depends on its content and how the audience will perceive its content... there are two critical things".

Meanwhile, Dream Girl 2 will mark Ayushmann's first collaboration with Ananya Panday and their new chemistry is grabbing a lot of eyeballs. Interestingly, Dream Girl 2 will also be witnessing a box office clash with Nushrratt Bharuccha starrer Akelli. It will be interesting to see how Dream Girl 2 will fare at the box office.
