Mission Raniganj Box Office Collection Day 1: Akshay Sees 2nd Lowest Opening In 2023; Third Lowest In A Decade

Akshay Kumar has been making the headlines these for his recent release Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue. The movie has been the talk of the town ever since it was announced and narrates the real story of Jaswant Singh Gill, a brave and diligent mining engineer from IIT Dhanbad, who rescued 65 trapped miners at the Raniganj Coalfields in 1989. Apart from Akshay, the movie also features Parineeti Chopra, Kumud Mishra etc in key roles.

And while Mission Raniganj has been creating an immense buzz with its trailer and songs, its box office reports have turned out to be quite a disappointment. According to a report published in Sacnilk, Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue has made a collection of Rs 2.8 crores on the first day of release. To note, this happens to be the second lowest opening for Akshay Kumar in 2023. Yes! You read that right.

Interestingly, Mission Raniganj happens to be Akshay's third release of the year after Selfiee and OMG 2. And while Selfiee witnessed the opening day collection of Rs 2.55 crores, OMG 2 saw the light of the day at Rs 10.26 crores. And now, Mission Raniganj recorded the second lowest opening for Akshay this year.

But this isn't all. Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue has also emerged as the third lowest opening for Akshay in a decade after Selfiee (Rs.2.55 crores) and the 2021 release Bell Bottom (Rs 2.75 crores). It is evident that the year 2023 isn't really favourable for Akshay Kumar. It will be interesting to see if Mission Raniganj will be able to pick up pace in the coming days.

After a slow start, the movie did witness a slight growth in the coming days and will reportedly make a collection of Rs 3.50 crores on the second day of release. Meanwhile, Akshay has several interesting projects in the pipeline at the moment which include Mahesh Manjrekar's Vedat Marathe Veer Daudale Saat, the Hindi remake of Tamil movie Soorarai Pottru, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan with Tiger Shroff etc.
