Selfiee BO Collection Day 1: Akshay Kumar Takes A Slow Start

Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi starrer most-awaited Selfiee has finally hit the theatres on Friday, February 24. Directed by Raj Mehta, the film is a remake of the 2019 Malayalam movie Driving Licence, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu in lead roles. Akshay and Emraan will be reprising the roles of Prithivi and Suraj, respectively. The movie also stars Nushrratt Bharuccha and Diana Penty as the lead female characters.

Meanwhile, the film generated some buzz among moviegoers, with advance bookings reportedly lower than for any other Akshay Kumar film.

SELFIEE DAY 1 BOX-OFFICE COLLECTION ESTIMATES

Though we have to wait for the film's day 1 box office collection, as per early estimates, Selfiee may make around Rs 10 crore on Friday. According to a report in Cine Reveal, Kumar's Selfiee, with its first day of advance booking, has already minted Rs 73.76 lakh.

Selfiee has reportedly sold around 34122 tickets so far. Given Akshay Kumar's stature and value, the numbers do seem really disappointing. The film has been produced by multiple houses like Dharma Productions and Magic Frames, Prithviraj Productions, Cape of Good Films, and Star Studios. On the other hand, it premiered on limited screens in 2000, and its release size is targeted across metropolises as there is less buzz in smaller centers.

SELFIEE TO FACE COMPETION FROM PATHAAN & SHEHZADA

Meanwhile, Selfiee also faces huge competition from Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan, which is still running successfully in theaters. They may also have to struggle, as Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon's Shehzada, which opened in theatres last week, may still have a chance with the audience if Selfiee doesn't get a positive response.
