Selfiee Box Office Collection Day 1: Akshay’s Film Earns Less Than 5 Crore; Another Huge Flop For The Actor?

Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi's Selfiee, directed by Good Newwz and Jugjugg Jeeyo fame Raj Mehta, was finally released yesterday (February 24) amid a decent buzz and huge expectations. Produced by Dharma Productions, Magic Frames, Prithviraj Productions, Cape of Good Films, and Star Studios, it is Akshay and Emraan's first theatrical release of the year.

Selfiee is the official Hindi remake of Prithviraj Sukumaran's 2019 Malayalam hit Driving Licence and also features Nushrratt Bharuccha and Diana Penty as the leading ladies. Its trailer received a decent response from moviegoers and created a positive pre-release buzz.

Since its release on Friday, Raj Gupta's directorial has been getting a mixed response from critics and viewers. Sadly, Selfiee underperformed on the first day of its release and had a shockingly low opening. Yes, you read that right!

AKSHAY KUMAR'S SELFIEE OPENS ON A DISASTROUS NOTE

Selfiee failed to even cross the Rs 5 crore mark at the ticket window and is expected to earn around 2.55 crore on Friday. Revealing the same, trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, "#Selfiee has a disastrous Day 1... Sends shock waves throughout the industry... One of the lowest starts for a film that has several prominent names attached to it... Fri ₹ 2.55 cr+. #India biz."

Looks like, moviegoers aren't much interested in South remakes now. Last week, Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon's Shehzada got released which was the remake of Allu Arjun's 2020 Telugu hit Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. While the action-comedy took a low opening and failed to witness the expected growth over the weekend, we just hope that Selfiee jumps big time on Saturday.

After a disappointing start, the footfalls need to multiply over the next few days for Selfiee to reach a healthy total.

WILL SELFIEE BECOME AKSHAY KUMAR'S FIFTH CONSECUTIVE BOX OFFICE FAILURE?

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is currently going through a rough phase with his four releases last year failing to make a mark at the ticket window - Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, and Ram Setu.

Now, it'll be interesting to see if Selfiee will finally end his dry spell or is going to become his fifth box office failure in a row.
