Zwigato Day 1 Box Office Collection: Kapil Sharma's Slice-Of-Life Drama Opens To Low Numbers Amid Rave Reviews

Zwigato day 1 box office collection : Comedian Kapil Sharma's latest release, Zwigato, which released in theaters today, March 17, has been receiving rave reviews for its commendable narration and Kapil's never-before-seen avatar. Kapil, who made his acting debut with the comedy Kis Kisko Pyaar Karun, later starred in Firangi. The actor, who is a household name, has surprised everyone with his intense and serious performance in Zwigato. Nandita Das' directorial was premiered at the Toronto and Busan film festivals, where the film received critical acclaim.

Ever since the film's release in India was announced, many have been eagerly waiting to see their favorite Kapil Sharma on screen. Meanwhile, the movie has, in the meantime, impressed moviegoers with its strong storyline. Talking about the early buzz around Zwigato, it was suggested that the slice-of-life drama would open to decent numbers. According to Sacnilk, Zwigato may earn around 0.50 crore in India on its first day of release.

Its afternoon shows only had 4.89 percent occupancy. Further, talking about Zwigato's screen distribution in India, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "'ZWIGATO' INDIA SCREEN COUNT... Team #Zwigato has opted for a focused, targeted release of 409 screens across #India... Smart move by the makers and distributors for the critically-acclaimed film." Looking at the trend, when only big-budget movies are working in the theaters, the makers decision to go with limited screens for a story based movie looks like a sensible move.

Speaking exclusively with Filmibeat, film producer and film business expert Girish Johar called Zwigato "not so typical" and added that the film targets the urban metro audience. Pointing out that Zwigato's box office business relies heavily on word of mouth, Mr Johar said, "Zwigato is nuanced and has an urban niche. I am confident that positive word-of-mouth will help the movie grow its business. The film is likely to have an under a crore opening. But having said that, the box office is very dynamic. If the word of mouth is good, obviously we can have higher numbers." It is to be noted that the exact numbers for Zwigato are awaited.
