Baby John Box Office Collection Day 2: Varun’s Film Sees Over 60% Dip; Struggles To Earn 5Cr On 1st Thursday

Baby John Box Office Collection Day 2

Baby John Box Office Collection Day 2: Varun Dhawan's recent release Baby John has been one of the most anticipated releases of the year for several reasons. From being the official Bollywood remake of Thalapathy Vijay's 2016 release Theri to marking Keerthy Suresh's much awaited Bollywood debut, Baby John has managed to create a massive buzz in the town lately. Helmed by Kalees, Baby John is an action thriller and also features Wamiqa Gabbi and Jackie Shroff in the lead.

While Varun Dhawan plays the role of a cop for the second time onscreen in Baby John, the movie also features Jackie in the role of a lead antagonist. The trailer of the film received a decent response and fans have been eagerly waiting for Varun's first big screen release of 2024. Amid all the buzz, Baby John opened to mixed reviews from the audience and critics

Baby John Box Office Collection Day 2

To note, Baby John saw a decent start at the box office with an opening day collection of Rs 11.25 crores and marked as Varun Dhawan's highest opener post the COVID 19 pandemic. However, the second day came with a massive drop of around 60% in the numbers. According to a report published in Sacnilk, Baby John earned Rs 4.5 crores on day 2 (first Thursday) which took the overall collections of the movie to Rs 15.75 crores.

Pushpa 2 Thrashes Baby John

For the uninitiated, Baby John has been facing an intense competition from Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa 2: The Rule which had hit the screens on December 5 this year. Despite being in the fourth week now, Pushpa 2 is having a upper hand over Baby John and has managed to thrash this Varun starrer at the box office. To note, Pushpa 2, which witnessed day 22 at the ticket windows on December 26, made a collection of Rs 7.25 crores in the Hindi speaking market.

Meanwhile, Varun, in an interview with India Today, spoke about taking inspiration from Theri and stated. "When Atlee came with this film, there was a reason behind it, and he said that we had to change a lot of the geography of the film. We have to use it as an adaptation and not really a proper remake, and I think that's what's done. Like you see, a lot of the frames and a lot of the story angles are different. So, if someone comes in expecting a book-by-book remake, they will be disappointed because that's not what the film is. It's an adaptation. We're not running away from that, but it's more of an adaptation".
