Baby John Box Office Collection Day 5: Varun’s Film Fails To Touch 30Cr In Opening Weekend Despite Hike

Baby John Box Office Collection Day 5: Varun Dhawan, who was last seen in Citadel: Honey Bunny opposite Samantha, came with a special gift for his fans on Christmas with his recent release Baby John. Directed by Kalees, the movie is an action drama which is the official Bollywood remake of Tamil film Theri starring Vijay Sethupathi and is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Jointly produced by Atlee and Murad Khetani, Baby John also features Keerthy Suresh, Jackie Shroff and Wamiqa Gabbi in the lead.
To note, Baby John marks Keerthy Suresh's much talked about Bollywood debut while it features Jackie Shroff in the role of lead antagonist. This isn't all. The action drama also features Varun in the titular role and marks his second film as a cop after the 2016 release Dishoom. To note, Baby John has managed to create a massive buzz in the town with its interesting trailer and peppy number. But seems to be struggling at the box office lately.
Baby John Box Office Collection Day 5
Varun Dhawan starrer Baby John saw a steady collection at the box office on day 5 (first Sunday). The movie, which minted Rs 4.25 crores on day 4 (first Saturday), made a collection of Rs 4.75 crores on day 5 (first Sunday) which took the overall collection of the movie to Rs 28.65 crores
Baby John Opening Weekend Collection
Interestingly, Baby John failed to set the box office on fire during the opening weekend. In fact, it has minted just 9 crores during its opening weekend. Interestingly, Baby John has been witnessing a strong competition from Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule. This isn't all. Pushpa 2, which is in the 4th week now, minted more than twice of Baby John's collection during the weekend. To note, Pushpa 2 made a collection of Rs 22.25 crores during the fourth weekend.
Meanwhile, Varun, in an interview with India Today, spoke about taking inspiration from Theri and stated. "When Atlee came with this film, there was a reason behind it, and he said that we had to change a lot of the geography of the film. We have to use it as an adaptation and not really a proper remake, and I think that's what's done. Like you see, a lot of the frames and a lot of the story angles are different. So, if someone comes in expecting a book-by-book remake, they will be disappointed because that's not what the film is. It's an adaptation. We're not running away from that, but it's more of an adaptation".
