Kalki 2898 AD Beats Fighter: Prabhas and Deepika Padukone starrer Kalki 2898 AD is one of the biggest releases of the year. Helmed by Nag Ashwain, the dystopian science fiction film also features Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead and has been one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Set in the post-apocalyptic world in the year 2898 AD, Kalki reportedly revolves around Kalki who is the tenth and final avatar of the Hindu deity, Vishnu. Given the spectacular star cast, the plot and VFX, Kalki 2898 AD has managed to leave the audience intrigued.
As Kalki 2898 AD has released in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and English and the makers had started the advance booking for the same days ahead of the film's grand release. According to a report published in Sacnilk, Kalki 2898 AD has managed to sell over 23.9 lakh tickets for the opening day and made a collection of Rs 8.6 crores. Interestingly, Kalki 2898 AD has surpassed the advance booking collection of day 1 for Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone starrer Fighter which had minted Rs 8.4 crores and has become the highest advance booking collection of 2024

Kalki 2898 AD is likely to have a bumper opening at the box office across India. Reportedly, Kalki 2898 AD is likely to rake in Rs 15-20 crores in Hindi market and might emerge as the highest opener of 2024 after beating Fighter (Rs 22.5 crores) if the word of mouth kicks in by evening.
Meanwhile, Kalki 2898 AD will reportedly chronicle some events of the Mahabharata in the year of 3102 BC, Nag Ashwin in his interaction with Deadline stated that the movie "does not involve any characters actively worshipped by large numbers of Hindus". He further asserted, "We can take it as extremely religious or we can take it as the story of somebody who was born with a lot of power, didn't know what to do with it, and found his mentor in the process".
