Will Kalki 2898 AD Become 2024's Highest Opener?: Deepika Padukone's massive fan following has all the reasons to be on cloud nine and rightfully so. After all, the diva is coming up with one of her biggest and most expensive films ever. We are talking about Nag Ashwin's recent directorial Kalki 2898 AD which is a dystopian science fiction film and also features Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani in the lead. To note, Kalki 2898 AD is one of the most anticipated releases of the year.

Set in the post-apocalyptic world in the year 2898 AD, Kalki 2898 AD is one of the most expensive films of Indian Cinema. Interestingly, Kalki 2898 AD marks Deepika's first collaboration with Prabhas and it has managed to create a massive buzz in the town. To note, the movie is releasing in six languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, English and Kannada. Amid the buzz, there have been massive speculations about how Kalki 2898 AD will fare at the box office in the Hindi dominant market.

In an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat, producer and film trade analyst Girish Johar stated, "It is a non holiday Thursday, so I would be happy if the film opens anywhere around Rs 15-20 crores. It would be fantastic and from there upon it can build and have a good number. They are realising it on Thursday which is a working, non-holiday so this number will be very good. Overall, I am expecting the fifth 100cr crosser for Prabhas worldwide which would be a big achievement".

When quizzed if Kalki 2898 AD can become the highest opener of 2024 after beating Fighter which made an opening day collection of Rs 22.5 crores, Girish Johar stated, "It can be the highest opener of 2024, shaam ko ho bhi sakta hai because it is going wide. It's a little tall ask, but if it is above Rs 24cr then definitely the word of mouth has kicked in. There is some chance of this".

He further emphasised, "The expectations are quite big and it's one of the biggest films of Indian cinema with the mammoth budget, the grandeur, the scale, the promotions. People are excited and the second trailer has done the trick. Down south and overseas it is mammoth start. Everyone is looking forward to the film". It will be interesting to see how many records Kalki 2898 AD will be creating at the box office.

Meanwhile, Kalki 2898 AD will reportedly chronicle some events of the Mahabharata in the year of 3102 BC, Nag Ashwin in his interaction with Deadline stated that the movie "does not involve any characters actively worshipped by large numbers of Hindus". He further asserted, "We can take it as extremely religious or we can take it as the story of somebody who was born with a lot of power, didn't know what to do with it, and found his mentor in the process".
