Directed by Nag Ashwin, the dystopian science fiction film was set in the post-apocalyptic world in the year 2898 AD and also features Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani in key roles and Dulqur Salmaan and Vijay Deverakonda in cameos. According to a report published in Sacnilk, Kalki 2898 AD raked in Rs 18 crores on day 10 (second Saturday) followed by a collection of Rs 22 crore yesterday (day 11/ second Sunday) which took the overall collections of the movie to Rs 211.9 crores. Given the trend, Kalki 2898 AD might to see a huge drop in numbers today (day 12/ second Monday) and is likely to mint Rs 10 crore at the box office.

Meanwhile, Kalki 2898 AD will reportedly chronicle some events of the Mahabharata in the year of 3102 BC, Nag Ashwin in his interaction with Deadline stated that the movie "does not involve any characters actively worshipped by large numbers of Hindus". He further asserted, "We can take it as extremely religious or we can take it as the story of somebody who was born with a lot of power, didn't know what to do with it, and found his mentor in the process".
