Tumbbad Box Office Collection Day 2: Sohum’s Horror Film Roars Loud Post Re-Release; Inches Close To 5Cr

Tumbbad Box Office Collection Day 2: The Indian box office has been witnessing a trend of re-releasing iconic hits once again in theatres lately. While hits like Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, Veer Zara, Maine Pyar Kiya etc had earlier hit the screens, the recent one to join is Sohum Shah's Tumbbad which was a folk horror film. Helmed by Rahi Anil Barve, Tumbbad, which had released in 2018 featured Sohum Shah, Rurdra Soni, Harsh K, Anita Date-Kelkar etc in the lead.
Written by Mitesh Shah, Prasad, Rahi Anil Barve, and Anand Gandhi, Tumbbad narrated the story of a village wherein the residents apparently built a temple to worship Hastar, the demon god following which the Gods cursed the village with incessant rain. The story revolves around a Konkanastha Brahmin family who seek an ancestral treasure that has been jinxed by the gods. And as Tumbbad has re-released in theatres on September 13, it has received a phenomenal response from the audience.
Tumbbad Box Office Collection Day 2
Tumbbad witnessed a phenomenal opening post re-release at the box office. The movie, which minted Rs 0.65 lakhs during its initial release in 2018, earned thrice its opening day collection post re-release. According to media reports, Tumbbad minted Rs 1.50 crores on the first day of its re-release. Interestingly, this Sohum Shah starrer saw another hike in collections on day 2 (first Saturday) wherein it saw a jump of 45% and earned Rs 2.20 crores. This took the overall collections of the film close to Rs 5 crores mark as the collections now stand at Rs 3.70 crores.
Tumbbad vs The Buckingham Murders Box Office Collection Day 1
Interestingly, Tumbbad is witnessing a box office clash with Hansal Mehta's recent directorial The Buckingham Murders starring Kareena Kapoor Khan. The movie happens to be a crime thriller and opened to a mixed response. To note, Tumbbad has managed to beat The Buckingham Murders on the first day. While Tumbbad minted Rs 1.5 crores on opening day, The Buckingham Murders had to settle with an opening day collection of Rs 1.15 crores.
Meanwhile, given the phenomenal response to Tumbbad, Sohum Shah has announced Tumbbad 2 with an intriguing teaser featuring characters Vinayak and his son Pandurang, with a voiceover from Sohum Shah saying, "Samay ka pahiya gol hai, jo beet gaya woh fir laut ke aayega...darwaaza bhi ek baar phir khulega"
