Vettaiyan Box Office Collection Day 5 (Hindi): Rajinikanth’s Film Sees Significant Drop; FAILS To Cross 50L

Vettaiyan Box Office Collection Day 5 (Hindi): Rajinikanth fans can't stop grinning from ear to ear and there are no second thoughts about it. After all, the megastar, who had left everyone in awe with Jailer last year and with an extended cameo Lal Salaam, is here with his first release of the year. We are talking about Vettaiyan which is an action drama and is helmed by T. J. Gnanavel. The movie also boasts a stellar cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faashil, Abhirami, Ritika Singh, Manjur Warrier, Dushara Vijayan, Rao Ramesh and Ramesh Thilak.

The movie marks Rajinikanth much awaited reunion with Amitabh Bachchan after over three decades. The duo were last seen in the 1991 release Hum which also featured Govinda and the trio played the role of step brothers in the film which was a hit. Interestingly, Vettaiyan featured Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan in the roles of police officers as they fought against Rana Daggubati who played the role of a lead antagonist. As Vettaiyan was released amid massive buzz, it opened to decent response at the box office

After recording an opening day collection of Rs 60 lakhs in Hindi market, the opening weekend saw a hike in numbers during the opening weekend for Vettaiyan. This Rajinikanth starrer raked in Rs 65 lakhs each on Saturday and Sunday (day 3 and day 4 respectively. However, the first Monday came with a massive drop in numbers for Vettaiyan. According to a report published in Sacnilk, Vettaiyan failed to touch Rs 50 lakhs mark and raked in Rs 22 lakhs on day 5 (first Monday) in the Hindi market, taking the overall collections of the movie to Rs 2.52 crores.

Vettaiyan vs GOAT: Vettaiyan Mints Over Four Times Less Than The Greatest Of All Time

While Vettiayan is frequently compared to Thalapathy Vijay's The Greatest Of All Time which has been the biggest Tamil release of the year, Rajinikanth starrer has failed to beat the latter since the first day. For the uninitiated, The Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) maintained Rs 90 lakhs in the Hindi market on the first Monday.

Vettaiyan Box Office Clash

Meanwhile, Vettaiyan is witnessing a box office clash with Alia Bhatt's Jigra and Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri starrer Vicky Aur Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video in the Hindi market. It will be interesting to see if Vettaiyan will beat the other two films at the box office in the coming days.
