Despite the star-studded cast and catchy music, the comedy drama somehow failed to strike a chord with the audience on the first day at the box office. The numbers don't lie.

It doesn't take a minute for things to change in the entertainment industry. Bhool Chuk Maaf was slated to hit the silver screens on May 9; however, the makers opted for a direct-to-digital release due to the India-Pakistan conflict. In a major development, PVR INOX filed a lawsuit against the production house (Maddock Films) for cancelling the theatrical release of the film, even when tickets were sold in the advance bookings.

The matter reached the Bombay High Court as the last-minute cancellation of the film's release in cinema halls caused losses to the distributors and exhibitors. While the two parties have sorted the differences and mutually agreed to release the film in theatres, the first day numbers are not promising.

Wondering how much Bhool Chuk Maaf earned on the opening day? Bollywood trade analyst Rohit Jaiswal took to social media to share the numbers, revealing that the film minted Rs 3.50 crore on Friday (May 23).

His tweet seemed like a dig at the makers as he wrote, "#BhoolChukMaaf takes a STAGGERING opening of ₹3.50cr (sic)."

Last year, Rajkummar Rao delivered the biggest blockbuster in the Hindi Film industry. With Stree 2 being the crown jewel of his crown, all eyes are always on the performance of his other releases. Bhool Chuk Maaf turned out to be a phuski bomb in front of the mighty Stree 2, which roared loudly like a lion.

According to Sacnilk, Stree 2, co-starring Shraddha Kapoor, minted Rs 51.8 crore on the opening day. Compared to Stree 2, Bhool Chuk Maadf could only earn around 6.5 percent of the total collection of the horror comedy.

After delivering the biggest blockbuster of the year with Chhaava, the trade experts and the industry expected Maddock Films to keep up the momentum with Bhool Chuk Maaf. But the lackluster numbers for the film prove that things are unpredictable in the industry. At a time when the audience's retention power has decreased, the makers somehow failed to gauge the needs of the cinephiles, who spend their hard-earned money for watching a movie.
