The deeply personal connection Akshay harbors towards the Jallianwala Bagh massacre is intricately entwined with his family history. Stories of this tragic event have been passed down through generations, starting from his grandfather, who was an eyewitness, to his father, and then to Akshay himself. This chain of oral tradition has not only provided him with a profound understanding of the massacre's impact but also fuels his dedication to "Kesari Chapter 2." Through this film, Akshay aspires to illuminate aspects of this historical incident that have remained obscured or poorly documented, aiming to honor the memory of those affected by showcasing the true extent of its horror.
"My grandfather witnessed the entire Jallianwala Bagh incident. He had told stories to my father about this, and my father told me. I have known a lot about the massacre since I was a child, so the film is very special to me. The event has been etched in my mind always...The most surprising thing was history doesn't tell us what we actually need to know," Akshay shared, highlighting the personal stakes he has in ensuring the accuracy and authenticity of the portrayal in "Kesari Chapter 2." His dedication to challenging the prevailing historical accounts is driven by a desire to correct the narrative, making it more reflective of the actual events and their profound impact.
In an appeal to the British government and King Charles, Akshay's intentions transcend the mere seeking of an apology for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. "I'm not here with a begging bowl to say, 'They should say sorry'. I want them to at least watch this movie and realise the mistake. Other things will flow automatically from their mouth. The apology is bound to happen, it will flow on its own. But I want them to watch this film. I want the British government and King Charles to watch this film. They should see what happened. The rest will follow automatically," he stated. Akshay believes that bringing awareness and understanding of the tragic events to the forefront is crucial. He is convinced that once the gravity of the incident is acknowledged by those in power, an apology will naturally ensue.
