Maa Box Office Collection Day 3: Kajol starrer Maa is the new release at the box office and it has been one of the most anticipated releases of the year for several reasons. Directed by Vishal Furia, Maa is a mythological horror drama which revolves around the story of Goddess Kali and a demon named Rakhtbeej. The movie marks. Starring Kajol in the lead as a titular role, Maa also features Ronit Roy as the lead antagonist along with Indraneil Sengupta and Kherin Sharma.
Marking a new addition to Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan starrer Shaitaan, Maa managed to create a massive buzz in the town with its intriguing trailer and posters. However, despite the buzz, Maa opened to mixed reviews from the audience. The movie lacks emotional connect as stated by the viewers and saw a slow start at the box office. In fact, Maa failed to touch the double digits during the opening weekend as well.

According to a report published in Sacnilk, Maa, which minted Rs 6 crores on day 2, saw a slight hike in numbers on day 3 (first Sunday) wherein it minted Rs 7 crores. This took the overall collections of the movie to Rs 17.65 crores after three days of release

To note, Maa has minted almost three times less than Ajay's Shaitaan on the first Sunday. For the uninitiated, Shaittan had minted Rs 20.5 crores on its day 3 of release
Maa vs Sitaare Zameen Par Opening Weekend Collection
Interestingly, with a collection of Rs 6 crores on Saturday and Rs 7 crores on Sunday, Maa made a collection of Rs 13 crores during the opening weekend. While Maa has been facing continuous comparisons with Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par, this Kajol starrer has failed to beat the sports comedy drama with a huge game. For the uninitiated, Sitaare Zameen Par had minted Rs 47.45 crores during its opening weekend.
Meanwhile, talking about Maa, Kajol told Khaleej Times, "I'm super proud, super excited. We've worked very hard on this film. And Maa - that word - it's universal. Across every language, every culture, the feeling is the same: a mother's instinct to protect her child, no matter what". In another interview, Maa is based on one of her favourite stories the tale of Kali Ma and Raktabija. "Somewhere we felt like we were doing the right thing. We felt like we were being guided on a path, being pushed in a direction we wanted to go in," she told Zoom.
