To note, Maalik also features Manushi Chhillar in the lead and marks her first collaboration with Rajkummar Rao. Maalik features Rajkummar in titular role along with Prosenjit Chatterjee as Prabhu Das, Manushi Chhillar as Shalini, Huma Qureshi as Mallika, Saurabh Sachdeva as Chandrashekhar, Saurabh Shukla as Minister Shankar Singh, Anshumaan Pushkar as Badaun, Swanand Kirkire as Balhar Singh, Rajendra Gupta as Bindeshwar, Deepak / Maalik's father and Baljinder Kaur. Maalik has managed to create a massive buzz in the town, it opened to decent reviews from the audience and critics.

According to a report published in Sacnilk, Maalik saw a steady hold at the box office and minted Rs 5.25 crores on day 3 (first Sunday). This took the overall collections of the movie to Rs 14.25 crores

Interestingly, Maalik, which minted Rs 5.25 on both Saturday and Sunday respectively, made a total collection of Rs 10.5 crores during the opening weekend despite facing a clash with Superman which has been going strong in the Indian market with every passing day.

Meanwhile, Maalik has been facing consistent comparisons with Ranbir Kapoor's Animal and Allu Arjun's Pushpa. However, in his conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Rajkummar had set the record straight and stated, "Every story has its own soul. We're not trying to replicate anyone. We're telling a story that's raw, real, and rooted in its own world".
