Last month, Akshay Kumar gave a special treat to his fans with the release of Bhooth Bangla. The horror comedy performed well in terms of numbers, emerging as the third hit of Bollywood in 2026 after Border 2 and Dhurandhar 2.

Day 1 box office numbers showed a clear gap between the two films, with Drishyam 3 leading worldwide over Bhooth Bangla, even though both titles released on different dates and targeted slightly different audience segments in India and overseas.

Drishyam 3, the Malayalam film that released on 21 May, earned higher global revenue on opening day, while Bhooth Bangla, which hit cinemas on 17 April, posted a lower worldwide total despite recording more shows across India during its first day of release.

On Day 1, Drishyam 3 collected ₹15.85 Cr net in India from 5,506 shows, translating into ₹18.37 Cr India gross. Overseas earnings stood at ₹25.00 Cr gross, which took the film’s worldwide gross box office collection to ₹43.37 Cr after its first day.

Bhooth Bangla opened earlier, on 17 April, and drew ₹12.25 Cr net in India on Day 1 from 12,386 shows. Its India gross reached ₹19.20 Cr, while overseas markets added ₹9.50 Cr, giving the film a worldwide gross of ₹28.70 Cr.
