Just a few days back you heard about Suchitra Pillai, the dusky actress from Dil Chahta Hai and Pyaar Ke Side Effetcs singing for a film. We have an exclusive interview with the multi talented actress where she tells us about Marigold and her singing career.
Recently there was news that you are doing music for Marigold. Could you put some light on it?
I am not doing the music for Marigold. I am just singing a song in the film. It is called Yaara. It will be used in the background during a scene in the film. The track is used from my private album. It is also there in a Hungarian film while the credits roll.
How did you bag Marigold?
Well I was signed just after Salman was signed. Dil Chahta Hai made the difference. William Caroll had seen the film and he absolutely loved my role. He came up to me and said I just want you to play the role. My character is called Rani. She is a very Bindaas character. Though the movie has been delayed and many changes have been made, I was always in touch with the team. It is my first Hollywood project. I am very excited to be a part of this film.
How did you get the song?
Well, I had written the song for my husband. He liked it so much that we decided to record it. When it was recorded I wanted to make an album but I thought of taking an opinion of the crew of Marigold for which I was shooting at that time. When I made them hear the song, Willard Caroll, the director of the film loved it so much that he asked me to put it in the film and I did so since I had no tie up with any company regarding the music rights of my song. So it was my song and they are using it.
When is your album releasing?
There are four tracks still remaining. Album will release very soon.
What response have you got for Pyaar Ke Side Effects and Shiva, both releasing same day?
I still have to see Pyaar Ke Side Effects. The response has been very good. People loved my hate chemistry. I have got people calling me up and appreciating my work. I will watch the film today. As for Shiva, I got a positive feedback from the police commissioner Mr Shivanand and that feels great. He loved the film and liked me in a brief role. I got a call from Shaad Ali's wife and she told me that Shaad liked the movie and my role in the film. So it feels good.
What about Karkash, a festival film? It is long due.
Karkash is my best work ever. It is the first film I play the lead for the first time in my career. It was a very very challenging role. I play a deglamorised character. What was difficult that the dialect was Awadhi which is very difficult and different from what I speak. The film is directed by Kamal Sadanah. It is a brilliant story. Hopefully the film will release by the end of this year or definitely early next year.
What is happening with Postcards?
Postcards is in the post production stage. We will start the promotions around Diwali time and we hope to release it by November.
Any other projects?
Well I am waiting for my films to release which are Marigold, Postcards and Karkash. Then I will see what roles I am offered and accordingly I will choose. Other than that I am doing television, a show called 'Comedy Show Ha Ha'. I am also doing Theater and will soon come up with my first Hindi play. I am also doing my own Radio Show.
Any other movie that you are singing for?
I hope to sing. If good offers come by, I will sing. Singing has been my passion since I was very young.
