Thursday night saw a glittering premiere of Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Eklavya at Imax, Wadala in Mumbai.
While the film saw a galaxy of stars ranging from Rekha to Aishwarya Rai, the surprise guests of the evening were Mukesh and Neeta Ambani.
And the shocking absentees, Anil and Tina Ambani, close friends of the Bachchan parivaar.
Read on for a chat with the director about his Ambani connection and more...
Mukesh and Neeta Ambani were at the premiere?
They were present at my invitation.
Both told me they loved the film.
Did they meet Amitabh?
There were more than 1300 people there, so I'm not aware.
Anil and Tina were missing. Comment.
You should clarify this with them.
How's the response to the film been?
Excellent. The opening has been excellent too. I am still reeling under the incredible reactions to Eklavya. The Los Angeles Times said it looks like a David Lean film. I'm too stunned to think ahead.
The toughest part of making Eklavya?
Writing the script was the most difficult. In terms of shooting, it was the train sequence.
The most challenging scene in Eklavya?
The train sequences with 400 camels were the most challenging. It was unbearably hot. And camels are not the easiest actors to direct.
Why did you take seven years to make Eklavya?
It took me five years to write the script.
