Pritam

in

In
fact,
the
wedding
in
Kolkata
was
so
sudden,
it
left
Pritam
in
a
daze.
So much so, when we spoke to him just hours before the big event, he sounded somewhat dumbfounded!
Shopping now!
Said the music director, who has given hits like Dhoom 1 and 2, Woh Lamhe, Bhagam Bhag, Pyar Ke Side/Effects, Gangster and Apna Sapna Money Money, "I'm in a daze. I don't know what's happening!
The decision to get married was so sudden that I didn't know it myself. Not many people knew I was getting married either!"
When we spoke to him a few hours before the saat pheras, Pritam hadn't even shopped for a wedding outfit.
His best friend, director Anurag Basu, and he were planning to go shopping in a few minutes. "I will go the traditional way - dhoti, kurta and topor (traditional Bengali headgear)."
Anurag added, "You just have to see Pritam with his long hair, long beard and topor. He's going to look extremely funny!"
But why the long hair? "That's to avoid any continuity breaks for my film Metro, where he's acting," said Anurag, who has known Pritam for the last eight years.
Parental pressure
Pritam said the marriage was sudden because of parental pressure. "Both mom and dad haven't been keeping well and have been wanting me to get married for the last four years.
The sudden decision was because of my dad, who has been very ill recently and wanted to see me married.
I've been trying to dodge marriage for many years now," said the marriage-phobic Gemini, adding, "But I couldn't postpone it any longer. It still has to sink in that I'm getting married. I was so sure I could dodge it again!"
Pritam flew in to Kolkata from Chennai on Sunday night, just a day before the wedding, adding that it was a love marriage, as Pritam has known his fiancee for the last four years.
"I met Smita through her older sister, who is my close friend, five years ago. I fell in love with her instantly. She works at Pantaloons in Mumbai."
Jhatpat style
The wedding ceremony was to be held in typical Bengali style in the Garia area in Kolkata near Pritam's home. "It will be a small ceremony, but I will be hosting a proper reception in Mumbai when I am back," said Pritam.
"Right now, some friends of mine from my school (St James, Presidency College) and Pune (FTII) will be coming for the wedding and party at night, which Anurag is trying to organise."
As for the honeymoon, Pritam and Smita are yet to decide on that. "We haven't decided. Everything is just whizzing past me right now.
I did my gaye halood and dodhikaran ceremonies yesterday afternoon, after which I am going shopping for my wedding outfit! I will be wearing something simple. The wedding is at 11 pm tonight."
