But
now
that

it
makes
me
wonder
what
off-shoots

To
consider,
women

are
shown
educated,

And
all
they

it
I
get
paid
to

Hmmm.. this is 'Ekjactly' what I'll call a dream job for any woman. Sorry!! I guess I've unintentionally offended a line of contenders in the name of parallel cinema makers who have been trying their very hard to change the role of women in media. And yes kudos to them for taking a stand. To mention a few, there is Tanuja Chandra' Dushman for whom woman is bold and fiery, Corporate kinda guy Madhur Bhandarkar, Sooraj Barjatya who sees his women only as Vivah material and lately Deepa Mehta who believes there is more to a woman than the basic elements, thus Fire and Water.
However the point of discussion is not to right or wrong any perspective but to prove that if WOMEN, who are ever moldable, flexible, multi-taskers, independent , fun and exciting of female species, weren't around, how boring and drab would Bollywood be.... Then let the role of WOMAN in Hindi films be as insignificant as those in comic capers or just plain basic props in action flicks.
But Boy! Do WOMAN lend Masala, Emotion and Drama to your movies? You bet!!
Mere Paas Maa Hai !!
Nirupa Roy became a household name with her heart melting "mamta" and tear jerking act. It was only due to her presence that Shashi Kapoor could overpower Big B in Deewar and say "mere paas Maa hai". Well to think of it, if it wasn't for mothers, we wouldn't get to see Sholay's basanti, Hema Malini back on screen, how would we identify with Kirron Kher's adorable Punjabi 'Parminder Kaur' performance in Hum Tum. Veterans like Jaya Bhaduri, Sharmila Tagore, Waheeda Raman could not have rekindled the screen with their brilliant performance.
K..Kkkk Kkiran
DDLJ - Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, a path breaking love story just could not have been possible if the very 'dulhaniya' wasn't there. Forget DDLJ, pick any given Love story for that matter. Love stories without women! HA! What really would the actors do? Who would they fight for? Who would they romance? And poor villains? Oh the poor fellas will lose their credibility if they don't mess with the Women in the film. And my wild guess is that Yash Chopra would rather take sanyaas than make non romantic movies. And the audience will have to go through 'Kanta bai's' horror in Kal Ho Na Ho on seeing SRK and Saif together! Hmm and now to cut the long story short, and not run our imagination any more wild, lets admit you cant romance without a WOMAN
Monika Oh My Darling!
No! I don't even want to see a man gyrating to great dancer Helen's steps. From Mehbooba mehbooba to Yeh Mera Dil, Helen has taken item songs to an all new level. Today we have a Bipasha doing Beedi Jalaaele in films like Omkara, Mallika Sherawat in Guru, and our golden girl Rekha in Parineeta (exception is ABY BABY the only officially tagged Item boy). Item numbers though just for entertainment have given WOMAN a noticeable platform but more than that got dreariest of film into Limelight.
Chopra... Prem Chopra Naam Hai Mera
From Amrish Puri to Pran, Sadshiv Amrapurkar to Paresh Rawal, Gulshan Grover to Irrfan Khan, Indian Film industry has seen a plethora of different and unique Bad Men ala Villians. Their degree of meanness and cruelty has been defined by the most awful things that they have done to the WOMAN and the kind of harassment they have subjected their women to. I don't think and you all will agree that without a WOMAN, the hero wouldn't be seen good and the Villain that bad. Period!
From Shashikala to Kamini to Mona Darling
Make a WOMAN look as dumb as LION's Mona Darling or as mean and shrewd a mother in law as Shashikala, you'll for sure get to a see different facet and a different nature to a lady. Complicated it sounds but yes women have each time carried out these roles with sheer honesty and perfection to the T. Bindu's role as Kamini gave women a vampish outlook that many a good and bad men still dread. Today Priyanka Chopra with her Aitraaz performance has brought the corporate woman into limelight and is so prevalent in society that it's no kidding. All men take a bow!!
Dhoom Machaale
Sorry to say but no party rocks without a WOMAN's gracious, flirtatious and effervescent presence. Take for example James Bond inspired series of Dhoom that zips the tag of Beach, Bikes and BABES. Boy Oh Boy, agree or not but both beach and bikes will lack luster and spark if the Babe isn't there. Who will lend excitement to the BIKINI? How will life turn into No Entry. Pooja Bhatt couldn't have thought of Jism and without Mallika Sherawat in Murder there wouldn't be anyone to Kill for! So all you sultry sirens from Koena Mitra to Celina Jaitley, Amrita Arora to Raima Sen get as naught sexy and Bitchy as you want for the men Love it
From Mother India to Damini
Talk of Woman of substance in film industry and you can't give Nargis's Mother India a miss! Meenakshi Shishadri's Damini, or for that matter Shabana Azmi's Arth, Smita Patil's Bhumika or Madhuri Dixit's Mrityudand.. To talk of it there are a horde full of women oriented films that you can point out but again to get back to the message, loud and clear:- Without WOMEN, these films wouldn't have been possible! And why just films Page 3 would be de-glam, Chandni Bar not enchanting and Sattai un exciting!! ?
Bollywood Girl - From Dhak Dhak to Kajra Re
We do have to keep up to our Bollywood Filmy Image" now don't we? Hey guys that's our core identity that we are talking of. The image that made Madhuri Dixit the famous 'Choli Ke Peeche' girl, where everyone started asking Rani 'Aati kya Khandala' and Kareena became the Oomph 'Poo' with K3G's "Keh do Na" But the woman of Denizens, the industry's Hollywood blue eyed girl, Ash takes the crown by breaking her Beauty queen Image and shaking the world with her absolutely Filmy Number, Kajra RE! So there it is Bollywood Women have indeed made us Proud and Popular
In the end how much ever the media shouts, Bra Burners hail, 'It's a male dominated industry where men are given prerogatives", there isn't any TUM without HUM and simply No chemistry. So finally just give up and accept it that Bollywood is a SHE - World where WOMEN RULE!
WOMAN
came,
they
saw
and
they
conquered!
We
wish
you
a
very
HAPPY
