Conferring of Life Time Achievement Award on Yash Chopra by the Filmfare is an affirmation that Yash Chopra has been successful in being able to continue to hold the baton of Raj Kapoor as being the king of romance with aplomb. This is, because he is the king who has sought of patented white as the medium to portray romance, and as such has given romance an ethereal touch, because romance is symbolized through colors, but Yash Chopra has white as a colour to convey romance. And this is what distinguishes him from his peers, and makes him a worthy successor of romance of the Raj Kapoor variety, as for Raj Kapoor romance was white and white was romance, and Simmi Grewal is a manifestation of this oeuvre of Raj Kapoor.

It all started with Kabhie Kabhie where an Amitabh Bachchan and Rakhee where enveloped in the clouds of white in the gardens of Kashmir valley under the carpet of chinar leaves, followed by Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh in the same tradition in the same film and continued with finesse up to Dilwaale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, and had sporadic touch of it in Veer Zaara. Whenever Yash Chopra has picked up the baton of direction, and of the romantic variety it is white that dominates the image and appears as the recurring motif.

It was an Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha in Silsila in pristine white romancing in the lavishly laid out fields of daffodils in Holland, after which Rekha had also become dyed in wool convert of the white variety or for that matter a Sridevi in Chandni romancing another romantic of the white variety Rishi Kapoor. In an interesting contrast Juhi Chawla was portrayed in yellow in Chandni and was sort of symbolic of pain and pathos.

Then in Mohabbatein where also romantic oeuvres which where etched out in pristine white where the patriarch in the form of Amitabh had an over powering presence in all white against the colored portrayal of a Shah Rukh Khan. It was in Darr that Juhi Chawla was adorned in white to convey the Champaign of romance of the bubbly variety, which was followed, by the white romance in Dilwaale Dulhaniaya Le Jayenge where Kajol appeared in white whenever the emotion of romance was to be portrayed.

It was choice of white that regularly took him to Switzerland for most of his romantic movies that he directed, as it is the country, which provides white landscape of the unlimited variety and owing to white as a medium of expression, he was also conferred an honorary citizenship of Switzerland.

The ultimate tribute to his preference for white to convey romance was given by Karan Johar in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai where Rani when she was romancing was in white and also Kajol, when she was leaving the field of romance accepting defeat in white on the train, as also the daughter of Shah Rukh when she decided to being romance back in Shah Rukh's life was adorned in white.

After the conferring of this award, one more romance of white variety with Ash and Abhi should be in the offing, as it would be culmination of the journey of romance for Yash Chopra which he started with Amitabh Bachchan in Kabhie Kabhie.
