Hijack is more than a terrorist film

Still from Hijack
First look of Hijack is out and the point it has managed to make loud and clear is that director Kunal Shivdasani certainly knows his job. With a Hollywood feel to the flick, as promised by the young filmmaker even before the teaser was made public, Hijack is next in the line of action films this year after Race and Tashan.

One thing which stands out in this Shiney Ahuja and Esha Deol starrer is the film's theme itself which is centered on a plane hijack. Shiney's mission is to rescue passengers on board an aircraft which has his own daughter amidst dozens of other passengers kept hostage by terrorists.

Doesn't the film's plot come close to that of Rohit Shetty's Zameen [Ajay Devgan, Abhishek Bachchan, Bipasha Basu] or Kuku Kohli's Yeh Dil Aashiqana [Karan Nath, Aditya Panscholi, Jeevidha]? Incidentally, both these films also had a hijack forming a major part of the narrative with the hero rescuing people close to him. Has Kunal Shivdasani also treaded a similar path?

Says the first time filmmaker with a smile, "I haven't seen Yeh Dil Aashiqana so I can't comment much about its plot. On the other hand Zameen in my opinion was a film which had all around 'masala' ingredients to it. There were elements of politics, 'chor-police', love story, patriotism - just about everything plugged into the narrative."

Talking about Hijack, Kunal goes on to add, "On the other hand, my film is based on the only plot which runs from start to finish i.e. a 'hijack'. There are no tangential references to anything else whatsoever and also we are not telling a good v/s bad tale or an honest man v/s terrorist drama. This is why you would observe that even the film's teaser throughout concentrates only on an aircraft and what happens when it is hijacked."

"I have always maintained that Hijack is on the lines of Die Hard series where there is a problem to be solved and that too in quick time without beating the bush. Here too, we are not deviating from the basic plot and what you would end up watching is a crisp two hour tale with some never seen before stunts and a twist arriving before you actually see it coming", says Kunal, the man behind hundreds of commercials, confidently.

Well, with action man Allan Amin behind the spectacular stunts choreographed for the film, one has to nod in agreement. Produced by Kunal himself along with Dinesh Vijan (the man behind Being Cyrus), Hijack which is being presented by Eros Entertainment is looking at a May/June release.
