Asin organises eye care camps in Sri Lanka

The actress with a beautiful smile, Asin Thottumkal has been shooting in Sri Lanka along with Salman Khan for Anees Bazmee's Ready. However, in spite of her busy schedule, Asin has been taking out time for some social causes. Early last week, she became the first South Indian actor in 30 odd years to visit the war devastated regions of Jaffna and Vavuniya in Sri Lanka.

The actress was accompanied by Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa, wife of Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa. She took part in some events in the Eye Treatment Centre of the Jaffna hospital.

She along with Salman's Being Human Foundation flew down eye surgeons with specialised medical equipments to ensure the smooth success of the Eye Care Camps. She expressed her desire to do something for the people of Jaffna and Vavuniya after her meeting with Namal Rajapaksa, MP and eldest son of the President. The actress also visited an orphanage for Tamil girls who have lost their parents in war.

In the last few months various film industry unions in South India have threatened to boycott films of actors who would be visiting Sri Lanka. In spite of this, Asin, who has a huge following down South, has taken a rather bold step of not just shooting in Sri Lanka but also extending her helping hand to social and charitable causes in the island nation.
