Milenge Milenge highlights: Old wine in new bottle

They were Bollywood"s hottest couple a few years ago. They declared their love for each other in public very much like their reel love life. The stupendous success of their film Jab We Met made them even more popular. Guess who I am talking about? No prizes for guessing. I"m talking about the once hot couple Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. They parted ways in a filmy manner with Kareena falling for Saif Ali Khan but their reel love dragged on for years.

Their film Milenge Milenge, which ironically means 'we will meet, we will meet," came to a standstill like their romance. Coincidentally, they broke up even before its dubbing was completed. The film went to the floor in 2004 and was scheduled for release on 23 December 2005 but it was delayed over and over again owing to various reasons from financial to casting problem. The lead pair added salt to the wounds by not allotting their dates for dubbing and shooting of its promotional video. Finally it is ready for release tomorrow, July 9, 2010, after almost seven years.

Milenge Milenge is said to be inspired by the romantic comedy Serendipity. It is produced by Boney Kapoor and directed by Satish Kaushik. Actors like Satish Shah, Aarti Chhabria and Delnaaz Paul are also in the cast.

Now, the big question is whether this romantic comedy, that was shot almost seven years ago, would work today. Indian film industry has gone through lots of transformation over the years, and with films based on unfamiliar topics like Taare Zameen Par turning commercial hit, it is doubtful if the new generation will love this 'purana" sort of film.

The lead pair Shahid and Kareena is both the highlight and weakness of the film. They are one of the highlights of the film because it is likely to be their last film together following their bitter parting. In fact, it will be a treat to see the hit pair of Jab We Met again on the big screens.

In the meantime, they are the weakness of the film. The fact is they are not as hot as they were a few years ago, when they were seeing each other. Moreover, there is possibility that the audience may not digest Shahid and Kareena rekindle after the infamous breakup.

However, Milenge Milenge is still in the news and has grabbed the attention of the public despite lukewarm promotion. The fans of the former couple would love to watch them romance, probably for the last time. Moreover there are chances that the hit couple repeats their Jab We Met magic. The film also enjoys lack of new releases this week.

Well, it will be interesting to see if the film works at the box office. Watch out for this 'old wine in new bottle!'
