From Arth To Shuddh Desi Romance - Movies On Live-In Relationships A Trend In Bollywood!

Live-in relationships have become common in India, mostly among youngsters. Though few are still hesitant to talk about such relationships, few others don't shy away about being in such relationship. One such industry where we can witness such relationship more is Film industry -both on and off screen.

In real life, we have seen many Bollywood stars in live-in relationships. Few stars in this relationship have gone a step ahead and entered wed-lock, but few others just broke up. Konkona Sen Sharma-Ranvir Shorey, Aamir Khan-Kiran Rao, and Saif Ali Khan-Kareena Kapoor are few who got married after being in live-in relationship, while John Abraham-Bipasha, and Saif Ali Khan-Rosa broke up and couples like Soha Ali Khan-Kunal Khemu, Abhay Deol-Preeti Desai are happy in live-in.

Bollywood has showcased live-in relationship in reel life too, ie., in films. Arth, Salaam Namaste, Wake Up Sid and recent film, Shuddh Desi Romance are few which portrayed this relationship on screen. While some entered the hit chart, others didn't click.

Arth, was directed by Mahesh Bhatt and was the first film that showcased live-in relationship. The movie starred Shabana Azmi, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Smita Patil, Raj Kiran and Rohini Hattangadi. The movie is about Mahesh Bhatt and his extramarital relationship with actress Parveen Babi. In the film, married Kulbhushan Kharbanda leaves his wife house and starts living with his lover Smita Patil. This was one of the successful films and was listed among 25 Must See Bollywood Movies (Indiatimes Movies). The film was remade in Tamil as Marupadiyum.

The movie written and directed by Khalid Mohammed, stars Tabu, Bhoomika Chawla, Riya Sen, Celina Jaitley, Natassha, Divya Dutta, Rahul Bose, Jimmy Shergill, Ashmit Patel and Kay Kay Menon. The movie shows Bhoomika Chawla in a live-in relationship with Rahul Bose. The movie did not do well at the Box Office though.

Salam Namaste was directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra under the Yash Raj Films banner. The film starred Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta, Arshad Warsi, Tania Zaetta and Jugal Hansraj. The film shows Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta living together without any strings attached. How they deal with problems during this relationship is the story all about. The movie received positive reviews.

The film directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Aditya Chopra, starred Ranbir Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Minissha Lamba, and Deepika Padukone. Ranbir, a playboy, falls in love with model Bipasha and they stay in live. When asked for commitment, Ranbir runs away where he meets two more girls. The film got mixed reviews.

Directed, co-written and co-produced by Madhur Bhandarkar, Fashion starred Priyanka Chopra in lead role, with Kangna Ranaut, Mugdha Godse, Arjan Bajwa and Arbaaz Khan. The movie shows Priyanka, a model-actress, living with her boyfriend Arjan Bajwa and due to misunderstanding they move away. The film was a hit.

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, the film starred Ranbir Kapoor and Konkana Sen Sharama. The movie showed Ranbir, who is spoiled, carefree son of wealthy businessman's son. Ranbir to fulfill his dream leaves his house to live his life on his own. There he meets Konkana, who is elder to him. She helps him in giving shelter and also supports him in fulfilling his dream. They live together but during this course of time they fall in love with each other.

Pyaar Ka Punchnama starred Kartik Tiwari, Rayo Bakhirta and Divyendu Sharma in the lead roles. The movie directed by Luv Ranjan, had Nushrat Bharucha, Sonalli Sehgall, Ishita Sharma as female leads. The film is the story of three bachelors who find girls whom they fall in love with. In the film, Kartik starts staying with his love Nushrat Bharucha, leaving his friends in flat. What happens to their relation forms a part of the story, also simultaneously showing his friends' story. The film received good reviews from critics as it had fantastic dialogues, which pulled the youths to theaters.

Cocktail, directed by Homi Adajania under the banner of Illuminati Films, starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and newcomer Diana Penty in lead roles. The movie showed all the three living together. The movie shows, the sophisticated yet good hearted Dippy falling in love with Saif, who in turn is in love with simple, lovable and homely girl Diana Penty. The movie was superhit and Deepika's role was much appreciated.

The movie was directed by Mohit Suri. Aashiqui 2, sequel of Aashiqui, starred Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles. The movie is about turbulent relationship between musicians Rahul (Aditya) and Arohi (Shraddha), who in the later part are seen living together. The movie received good response at the Box Office.

I, Me Aur Main (2013)

I, Me Aur Main (2013)

Directed by debutant director Kapil Sharma, the film featured John Abraham, Prachi Desai and Chitrangada Singh in lead roles. In the movie, John, a good-looking music producer, is seen in live-in with his girlfriend Chitrangda Singh.Chitrandgda irrited with John's easy going attitude throws him out of the house, where he meets Prachi and falls in love with her. The movie did not do well at the Box Office.

The latest release on the subject - Shuddh Desi Romance is directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Aditya Chopra. The film features Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra and newcomer Vaani Kapoor in leading roles. In the movie, Sushant, is impressed by Parineeti's freedom and acquires the guts to run away from his own wedding. They start dating and enter into a live-in-relationship. The movie has received mixed response from critics and audience. It should be seen whether the movie will become hit at the Box Office with its future collections.
