The saying, "Behind every successful man there is a woman," holds true for Shahrukh Khan. Shahrukh has always mentioned in his interview that Gauri is his pillar of strength and is everything to him. But Gauri is not just another superstar's wife, she has created her own identity, separate from her husband's name.

In 2002, Gauri and Shahrukh founded the motion picture production and distribution company, Red Chillies Entertainment, where she serves as the main producer. She became producer of Farah Khan's directorial debut Main Hoon Na, which was a superhit at the Box-Office. In 1990's, she used to host a weekly Hindi music countdown show, Oye, for a music channel in the 1990s. In 2010, Gauri started her own interior designing buisness in partnership with Sussanne Roshan.

Gauri Khan in an interview to a magazine said, "Shahrukh has definitely been my inspiration. When I got into interior designing, he was very happy and he really wanted me to do this. He is so driven and I'm completely inspired by him. In fact, my design journey started because he gave me a complete free hand in doing up our homes."
