Recently,
senior
cancer
surgeon
of
Tata
Memorial
Hospital
(TMH),
Dr
Pankaj
Chaturvedi,
wrote
an
open
letter
to
Messiah
of
new
wave
cinema
of
Bollywood,
Anurag
Kashyap,
after
the
filmmaker
refused
to
place
an
anti
smoking
warning
in
his
film
Ugly
as
he
found
the
disclaimer
disturbs
the
visual
narration.
Anurag
Kashyap
never
takes
criticism
in
the
right
spirit
even
when
addressed
in
the
proper
manner.
There
were
many
such
incidents
in
the
past;
the
last
one
being
he
is
leaving
the
twitter
after
a
fight
with
his
followers.
The
advice
he
gives
his
twitter
critics
most
time
is
" You'are
talking
through
your
a**".
Even
to
a
respected
senior
cancer
surgeon
of
greater
ranks,
he
told
them
same,
it
seems.
A
public
interest
litigation
(PIL)
was
filed
at
Bombay
High
Court
by
Kashyap
on
December
17,
arguing
that
censor
board
doesn't
allow
his
movie
to
release
on
the
grounds
of
lack
of
anti
smoking
disclaimers
in
particular
scenes.
The
filmmaker
told
the
media
that
his
fundamental
right
to
speech
and
expression
is
violated.
In
his
open
letter,
Dr
Pankaj
Chaturvedi
addressed
all
the
arguments
made
by
Ugly
director
in
his
petition
and
replied
for
the
same.
This
didn't
go
with
Anurag
and
he
replied
with
harsh
words
for
the
letter.
Read
Anurag's
reply
for
Dr
Pankaj
Chaturvedi's
open
letter
through
the
slides
He
says,
"I
don't
want
to
respond
to
people
who
don't
know
what
my
fight
is
about
and
talk
through
their
a**."
All
that
Anurag
had
to
say
about
doctor's
open
letter
was,
"
A
person
who
makes
patients
sign
a
form
before
surgery,
saying
the
doctor
is
not
responsible,
wants
to
hold
my
film
responsible
for
the
social
ill
of
smoking
and
make
it
my
responsibility.
That's
an
irony.
I
don't
want
to
respond
to
people
who
don't
know
what
my
fight
is
about
and
talk
through
their
a**."
Kashyap
Is
The
Maker
Of
No
Smoking
Anurag
Kashyap
even
made
a
film
named
No
Smoking
in
the
beginning
of
his
directorial
career.
The
film
was
about
a
man
who
is
losing
out
his
freedom
and
freedom
of
expression
as
his
wife
hires
a
company
to
stop
his
tobacco
addiction.
Even
though
the
film
didn't
fetch
numbers
in
box
office,
it
was
a
critical
success.
Anurag
Is
Separating
From
Kalki
Koechlin
In
Kashyap's
No
Smoking,
the
name
of
the
protagonist
was
K.
At
the
point
of
its
release,
he
claimed
that
K
could
have
Kashyap
of
Kafka.
In
the
film,
K
was
on
the
verge
of
loosing
his
wife
because
of
his
tobacco
addiction.
Interestingly,
Kashyap,
while
battling
his
war
against
tobacco
disclaimer,
is
also
separating
from
his
wife
,
Kalki
Koechlin.
Ugly

The
Culprit
Ugly
is
Anurag
Kashyap's
Latest
Film.
It
is
a
few
scenes
in
Ugly
which
led
Anurag
to
go
to
court.Health
Ministry
and
Censor
Board
wanted
Anurag
to
show
Anti
Smoking
Disclaimers
in
certain
scenes
where
characters
smoke.
He
opines
that
No
Smoking
Disclaimers
destroys
the
visual
narration
of
the
film
and
breaks
the
chain
of
make-belief
which
is
the
soul
of
any
film.
