He is truly the star of the movie, who has shed his chocolate boy image and got into the skin of the character, Raghu, that he plays in the movie. There are some particular scenes which are disturbing on so many levels like when he is smashing an unknown person to death.
There some shades of Hollywood serial Dexter in this movie, when we see Varun Dhawan standing in a room covered in plastic. As much credits this young lad is taking for showcasing a brilliant and breathtaking performance, the same or more credit goes to Sriram Raghavan for directing this brilliant masterpiece.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui who has also grabbed our attention in the trailer had not uttered a single dialogue yet he leaves a deep impressionable effect on us. While Huma Qureshi is seen playing the role of a prostitute, Yami Gautam is seen in the role of Varun's wife or girlfriend in the movie who has been wronged and whose revenge is being seeked by his character.
On working with Sriram and Nawazuddin, Varun says, "Before I became an actor, I knew I would work with Sriram Raghavan. When I saw Gangs Of Wasseypur, I knew I would work with Nawaz. It's like I have a sixth sense and I am very fortunate to work with them."
The trailer is truly one of the best we have seen this year, sadly the movie is releasing after two months on 20th February, so till then take a look at the 10 breathtaking scenes from this Varun Dhawan starrer.
The actor is playing the role of a guy who is 18 years old to a father who is 40 years old. The only question he asked director Sriram Raghavan was, 'Why me?' the director retorted, "Because you have innocent eyes, something my character needs."
Speaking about his role in the mvoie, ""It drained me. I had slipped into depression as after a point it no longer felt like I was acting in a film. The experience was that terrifying. Sriram really made me suffer. Even when the camera was off, he was shooting me. It was a reality check of a different kind because till then I had been leading a rather insulated life, both in real life and reel."
Murder Ki Lela Hai
Varun said, "In the first three films the characters I played were extension of my personality, of my life. But in Badlapur I play a character which I could be in real life when I turn a father."
Divya Dutta-Varun's Kiss
He said, "My character in Badlapur was difficult to do. It was an emotional experience. I was very comfortable sharing a liplock with Divya Dutta in the movie."
He said, "An actor has to experiment with genres. This movie is very different to what my image is in the industry. I had to raise my game for Badlapur."
Nawazuddin Siddiqui said, "I had a good time working with Varun. He is a talented actor. I've always wanted to work with Sriram Raghavan."
Baddie Vs Hero
Varun says, "Before I became an actor, I knew I would work with Sriram Raghavan. When I saw Gangs Of Wasseypur, I knew I would work with Nawaz. It's like I have sixth sense and I am very fortunate to work with them."
He says, "My look is not similar to that of Shahid Kapoor's in Haider. I had to modulate my voice for Badlapur. It was difficult."
Nawazuddin's Terrifying Scene
Director Sriram says, "The story of Badlapur revolves around Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui." The film is a revenge drama co-starring Yami Gautam, Huma Qureshi and Divya Dutta in pivotal roles.
Yami Gautam plays the helpless wife/ girlfriend who will get butchered which turns Raghu from good guy to the murderous hero.
Huma Qureshi plays the role of a prostitute who according to the actress acts like a bridge between Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui's characters.
"Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui have done amazing work in this film," says Divya Dutta who will be seen kissing Varun Dhawan in the movie.
