Bollywood
has
a
reason
to
celebrate
today
as
versatile
film
director
and
producer
Mani
Ratnam
has
turned
58.
Gopala
Ratnam
Subramaniam,
popularly
known
as
Mani
Ratnam
has
earned
the
reputation
of
being
one
of
the
best
film
directors
in
Indian
cinema,
and
with
so
many
hits
and
wide
critical
acclaims,
Ratnam
surely
deserves
so.
Although,
Ratnam
has
been
pre-dominantly
associated
with
Tamil
movies
but
his
contribution
to
Bollywood
has
also
been
exceptional.
He
made
his
debut
in
film
direction
with
a
Kannada
film
Pallavi
Anu
Pallavi
(1983)
which
fetched
Ratnam
with
huge
critical
appreciation
and
an
award
for
the
screenplay
at
the
Karnataka
State
Film
Awards.
Since
then
the
talented
film
maker
came
up
with
series
of
great
movies
and
scores
of
awards
and
nominations.
Mani
Ratnam
has
always
been
recognised
for
his
unique
story
telling
style
and
substance
full
film
making.
Ratnam
was
born
in
erstwhile
Madras
in
1956
and
belongs
from
a
film
making
family
as
his
father
Venus
Gopalratnam
was
a
film
producer
and
so
is
his
brother
G.
Venkateshwaran.
After
acquiring
a
management
degree
from
Mumbai,
Ratnam
initially
started
his
career
as
a
management
consultant;
however
as
he
had
film
making
in
his
blood,
Ratnam
soon
stepped
into
his
ideal
genre.

wish
the
great
