Mardaani: 10 Reasons Why This Brilliant Movie Is Failing At Box Office
Mardaani starring Rani Mukerji may have not drawn you to theaters due to a number of reasons which is a sad thing for it is one of the best movies that has released in Bollywood this year.
The film features Rani Mukerji in the lead role, with Jisshu Sengupta and Tahir Bhasin appearing in supporting roles. The plot of the movie is as follows: Shivani Shivaji Roy (Rani Mukerji) is a senior inspector of the criminal branch in Mumbai. She lives with her husband, Dr. Bikram Roy (Jisshu Sengupta), and her little niece, Meera, of whom she is very protective.
A teenage girl, Pyari, who is like a daughter to her, is kidnapped by the trafficking mafia and smuggled out of the city. The mafia kingpin, Walt, calls Shivani and wants to know what she wants, so she will stop chasing them. Shivani asks Walt (Tahir Bhasin) to let Pyari free, but he won't let her free, because Pyari has seen too much. Shivani doesn't know the name of mafia kingpin and she says that she is going to catch him in 30 days. This cat and mouse game between a young, ruthless mafia kingpin and the police is what keeps you glued to your seats in the theater.
While the movie has managed to beat Kangana Ranaut's Queen opening weekend collection of Rs 10 crores and has raked in Rs 14.46 crores over the weekend, it is still really less compared to other films like Entertainment , Kick or even Singham Returns that managed to collect more than this on the very first day.

Mardaani Another Aiyya?
People feared that Mardaani would be another film like Aiyya and that this is just another attempt of Rani to make a comeback in the industry. So people could not gauge that Mardaani is actually a briliant movie.
Rani And Action?
People also failed to visualize Rani in an action role. Her image and looks din't seem like she could carry of such a role but to our surprise the actress has done full justice to the cop role.
Female Cop
Most of the movies in Bollywood with heroines playing the female cop have not fared well, the reason for this is unknown but movies like Gunday and Gunaah where Priyanka Chopra and Bipasha Basu played cop respectively too din't do well at Box Office.
No Star Presence
As much as we hate to say this, movie goers do prefer stars in the movie. They are the people who draw the crowd into the theaters and it has been quite sometime Rani was regarded as a superstar.
Rani Mukerji-Hero
With each generation a new set of heroines rule the screen and this generation belongs to Deepika and Katrina etc so when actress like Rani or Kajol act in a movie they are not ready to see them in a solo hero kind of role. Unless it was English Vingish which Sridevi carried off pretty well.
Dark Film
When people watch movies they need entertainment and from Mardaani's trailer it seemed like a dark themed movie and so people may not have been ready to watch a serious film in theater unless it was really that good. Now that Mardaani has proved it is a brilliant movie, may be people will rush to theaters.
No Unique Promotions
Promotions play a huge part in movies, Kick, Happy New Year and even Bobby Jasoos incorporated new promotional strategies but Rani din't do anything different and was seen promoting her only in television channels. Now after the release of the movie they are trying to promote, which may not matter anymore now.
Women-Oriented Film
While people don't mind watching a women oriented film, a lot of bad films in the past have created a notion in the public's mind that they won't be good. Very rarely do films like Queen and Mardaani come which win our hearts over.
Marriage Factor
No matter how much one argues, people may still not be open enough to see a married heroine on-screen. Even a star like Kareena Kapoor's projects have drastically reduced. So this could also be a factor.
Pregnancy Rumours
Wherever we saw, more than Rani's Mardaani, her marriage and pregnancy rumours were given importance. Media highlighted her pregnancy rumours and marriage so much that Mardaani was somewhere lost.
