    Horror has become one of the favourite subjects of filmmakers in the past few years. Filmmakers have successfully showcased horror on the silver screen from black and white era. The first Hindi horror film Mahal was made by Kamal Amrohi in the year 1949. The film was super hit.

    A decade later, the Hindi film industry once again tasted the success of horror film Bees Saal Baad in the year 1962. Film was directed by Hemant Kumar was also declared a hit. But with the passage of time, the idea behind making the horror films also changed. Earlier, the stories use to revolve around an old villa, darkness and mysterious death but now they have become more interesting.

    There are many films which didn't impress the critics much, but the audiences always gave thumbs up to the experiments. Old films like Mahal, Purana Mandir, Veerana and Dahshat are a few to name.

    Today, filmmakers are using the best available technology to showcase horror on the big screen. Earlier, the horror movies were low budgeted but now the technology cost has gone up.

    Raaz is one such movie which is still succeeds in frightening the audiences. However, its sequels failed to create the same magic.

    Actress Bipasha Basu has now geared up for her another horror flick Creature 3D, which will hit the theatres on September 12, 2014.

    This supernatural thriller marked the directorial debut of the filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma. Actress Revathi played the lead role in the film which was released in the year 1992.


    This horror movie is still remembered as one of the iconic hit films. The movie featured actress Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea in the lead roles. Directed by filmmaker Vikram Bhatt, the movie was the second highest grosser of the year 2002.

    Darna Mana Hai

    Film was directed by Ram Gopal Verma and had a huge star cast. This movie was different from the regular horror films. Actor Saif Ali Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Shilpa Shetty, Sameera Reddy featured in pivotal roles. Movie was released in the year 2003.


    Filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma release another horror film in the year 2003. Actor Ajay Devgn and Urmila Matondkar were paired opposite each other for the first time. Movie was the hit film of that year and actress Urmila Matondkar won nearly seven awards for her role in the film.

    Vaastu Shastra

    Film was made directed by filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma which released in the year 2004. Critics were impressed by the film, but the audience failed to connect with the story.


    Movie revolved around a married couple, who lives in a haunted villa. Actor Rajneesh Duggal was paired opposite actress Adah Sharma in the film. Film received moderate success at the box office.

    Haunted 3D

    Film was the surprise hit of the year 2011. Movie starred Mahaakshay Chakraborty, Twinkle Bajpai and Anchit Kaur in pivotal roles. Film was directed by Vikram Bhatt.
