In 2007, Zoya Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar appeared on the famous game show Kaun Banega Crorepati hosted by Shahrukh Khan at that time. They won Rs. 25 Lakhs, and donated the money to their step-mother Shabana Azmi's cause, Nevara Haq.

In one interview, Zoya's mother had said that Zoya was a very sensible child while her brother Farhan Akhtar was a brat.
