Model turned actor Sonu Sood has had a mixed innings when it comes to Bollywood but the actor has several versatile performances to his credit. A popular face even down the South, he grabbed all the headlines when he signed Jackie Chan starrer Kung Fu Yoga.
We recently caught up with the handsome Punjabi munda for a quick chat and what followed next was a freewheel conversation about his film journey, box office numbers and more.
Excerpts from the interview...
On His Working Experience with Jackie Chan
It's like a dream come true when you work with someone of that stature. I have always loved Jackie Chans films. When you actually want something in your life God makes it happen. Today, I am happy that it did happen and I am distributing the film in India. So, the whole journey was special and I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.
On Kung Fu Yoga Being A Career-Defining Film
I don't know. I leave up to the audience to decide that when they see the film. For me, as an actor it will always be a special film for me as it is produced under the name of my father. So, it's very close to my heart.
On His Co-stars Amyra Dastur And Disha Patani & His Shooting Experience In China
They are very sweet. It was actually very tough to survive in China without the desi khaana. Being a vegetarian, it becomes all the more difficult. In the first schedule, it was difficult but then in the second one, we used to cook for them too. When you come together for a movie you discuss friends and many more things and that's the best part of life.
On The Importance Of Box Office Numbers
They do matter as they give you the required confidence, power to produce or distribute your next film. The most important thing is that your work has to be loved. Whatever you promise through the trailers, it has to be delivered in your film.
Importance Of Hollywood When Actresses Like Priyanka Chopra Are Doing Great There
It makes you feel important and nice. The journey from a local train without a ticket to flying in a private jet with Jackie Chan has not been bad.
On A Future Collaboration With Salman Khan
I met Salman Khan a couple of days back in Spain. I told Jackie Chan about it and he said let's produce a film together. (laughs) You never know when something is in the pipeline in the years to come.
Acting Or Producing Films; Which Is More Difficult?
An actor's job is not that difficult. You have the vanity van waiting for you. But as a producer, you make sure that all the vanity vans were there, whether the air-conditioners are working, you have to keep on signing cheque for the others. You are answerable to everyone. I remember Jackie was in India for 10-11 hours but it took me months of preparation to make that happen. It's not easy but I am glad that I could pull it off.
