One of the most prolific filmmakers of Indian cinema, Vishal Bhardwaj, celebrates his 53rd birthday today. A receipt of 7 National Film awards and a Filmfare award, he made his debut as a music composer with the children's film Abhay, but it was his music compositions in Gulzar's Maachis which rose him to fame. Bhardwaj made his directorial debut with Shabana Azmi-Shweta Basu Prasad starrer Makdee in 2002 and went on to direct many critically acclaimed films.

Makdee
Vishal Bhardwaj's first film Makdee revolved around twin sisters (played by Shweta Basu Prasad) and how they get entrapped by an evil witch essayed by Shabana Azmi. The film earned Shweta the National Film Award for Best Child Actor in 2003.
Maqbool
Maqbool was Vishal Bhardwaj's adaptation of William Shakespeare's Macbeth. The film wasn't just an underworld story. Instead, it transported one to the world of pain and redemption showcased with sparkling performances by Pankaj Kapur, Irrfan Khan and Tabu.
Omkara
Set in the interiors of Uttar Pradesh in the milieu of political warfare, Omkara was an adaptation of William Shakespeare's Othello. While almost every actor in the film gave one of their best performances, it was however Saif Ali Khan who stole the show as Langda Tyagi. And of course, not to forget, Bipasha Basu's sizzling 'Beedi Jalai Le'.
