One of Indian cinema's most successful filmmakers, Rajkumar Hirani celebrates his 56th birthday today. Born to a Sindhi family in Nagpur on 20th November, 1962, he worked as a film editor for many years before shifting his focus towards advertising. Hirani soon started teaming with Vidhu Vinod Chopra and bagged his first big opportunity as a film editor with Hrithik Roshan-Sanjay Dutt starrer Mission Kashmir.

Soon, Rajkumar Hirani jumped into filmmaking and in a career spanning over 15 years, he made blockbuster films like Munnabhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munnabhai, 3 Idiots, PK and Sanju. On his 56th birthday today, we take a look into some interesting facets about his life-

"That scene in 3 Idiots where Madhavan goes to his father and tells him that he doesn't want to be an engineer, it comes from my own life. I really had to muster the courage to go to my dad and tell him I don't want to become a chartered accountant, and he just looked at me and said, 'Okay, don't'," Hirani said in an interview with Firstpost.

Raju's dad met a man trying to dupe people by getting to place ads in a magazine which would never get printed. After a few months,when people started beating the man up when he confessed his act, his father saved him, brought him home, fed him and gave him money to return.
