The festival of Holi, known for its joy and colours, will be celebrated on March 8 this year. As the festival approaches, many individuals have already begun preparing for it. As people in the country soak up the vibrancy of this festival and enjoy some delicious dishes, Holi has also been a significant part of Bollywood. Hindi movies have over the years portrayed different shades of Holi, be they tragic, happy, or romantic. Moreover, Holi celebrations without Bollywood songs are incomplete. But there have been some very crucial scenes in movies that define the storyline of the movie. There's a list of five iconic Holi scenes from Bollywood that will take you down memory lane.
MOHABBATEIN
One of Shah Rukh Khan's most memorable movies, this romantic film is everybody's favourite for its songs and beautiful scenes. In one of the scenes, Raj (SRK) tried to impress strict principle Narayan Shankar (Amitabh Bachchan) by putting a small teeka of gulal on his forehead so that he would give permission to the students to play Holi. Him letting Raj apply the gulal signifies his acceptance and is considered one of the sweetest scenes from the film.
PADMAAVAT
The beautiful on-screen chemistry between actors Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone really came out well in one particular scene. The scene occurs during the song "Holi," where Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor) is seated on a swing and Queen Padmavati (Deepika Padukone) applies gulaal (colored powder) on her beloved king. The scene is intimately and sensually portrayed between the characters while the Holi folk songs play in the background.
DARR
The scene where Rahul (Shah Rukh) confesses his love to Kiran (Juhi Chawla) and applies colour to her face turned out to be one of the best scenes in the film. Darr also takes a different turn with this particular scene. The scene is iconic because it showcases the real-life threats women go through during the festival, as some take advantage of the colours to harass and abuse women.
SILSILA
Two scenes run simultaneously here. One where Chandni (Rekha) and Shobha (Jaya Bachchan) wish each other, and Chandni tells her that she didn't marry the man she was in love with. While in another part of the scene, Amit confesses something to Chandni's husband, Dr Anand (Sanjeev Kumar). As evergreen as the film is, Rang Barse immediately follows, which remains memorable to this day.
SHOLAY
Sholay's song "Holi Ke Din Dil Mil Jate Hai" is a crucial point in the movie as soon after the song, dacoit Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan) attacks the village and the reality of Thakur (Sanjeev Kapoor) gets revealed to the lead actors, Jai and Veeru, played by Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra respectively.
