From India's deeply spiritual narratives to ancient Greek odysseys of adventure and endurance, filmmakers are revisiting epics not just to retell them, but to reimagine them with scale, emotion, and cutting-edge spectacle. The result? A powerful lineup of films that promise to be both visually grand and emotionally resonant, pulling audiences into worlds where faith, destiny, and heroism collide.

1. Krishnavataram:
At the forefront of this wave is Krishnavataram, helmed by Hardik Gajjar and slated for a 7th May 2026 release. Rooted in the epic saga of Lord Krishna, the film aims to go beyond the familiar, delving into untold stories and the profound teachings that continue to shape belief systems even today. With its promise of visual opulence and emotional depth, Krishnavataram is positioning itself as a spiritual and cinematic spectacle designed for the big screen. The movie stars Siddharth Gupta as Krishna, Sanskruti Jayana as Satyabhama, Sushmita Bhatt as Radha and Nivaashiyni Krishnan as Rukmini. Directed by Hardik Gajjar, Krishnavataram is presented and produced by Sajan Raj Kurup and Shobha Sant of Creativeland Studios Entertainment along with Poonam Shroff and Parth Gajjar of Athashrikatha Motion Pictures. Conceived as the first chapter of a three-part cinematic franchise, Krishnavataram is set for a worldwide theatrical release on 7th May 2026.
2. Ramayana Part 1:
Equally anticipated is Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and set for a grand Diwali 2025 release. A story that has transcended generations, Ramayana brings to life the journey of Lord Ram-an enduring tale of love, duty, sacrifice, and destiny. With modern filmmaking tools at its disposal, this retelling is expected to strike a balance between reverence and reinvention, making it accessible to newer audiences while retaining its spiritual core.
3.Parashuram:
Adding to the mythological momentum is Parashuram, inspired by the legendary warrior sage known for his strength and unwavering principles. While details remain under wraps, the film is already generating curiosity for its potential to explore a character that embodies both rage and righteousness an intriguing duality rarely explored in mainstream cinema.The film will depict how Lord Vishnu took the Parshuram avatar to end the tyranny of corrupt and arrogant Kshatriya kings who had abandoned dharma (righteousness) and were oppressing the world. Mahavatar Parshuraam is set to release in theatres in December 2027. Presented by Hombale Films and produced by Kleem Production, this marks the 2nd instalment in the planned seven-part Mahavatar Cinematic Universe.
4. Odyssey:
On the global front, The Odyssey by Christopher Nolan stands as one of the most anticipated adaptations of The Odyssey. Chiranjeevi Hanuman - The Eternal
The first look of Chiranjeevi Hanuman - The Eternal offered a glimpse into the cinematic vision exploring the life of Lord Hanuman, the symbol of fearless courage and supreme devotion to Lord Ram. This first look has been released ahead of its theatrical release in 2026. Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Rajesh Mapuskar (Ferrari Ki Sawaari), Chiranjeevi Hanuman - The Eternal is the story of Lord Hanuman celebrating India's rich storytelling heritage.Presented by Star Studio18 in association with Collective Studios Historyverse and Abundantia Entertainment, the film is produced by Alok Jain, Ajit Andhare, Vijay Subramaniam and Vikram Malhotra.
