Throwback: When Aishwarya Rai SHOCKED B-Town With Her Statement On Why She Broke Up With Salman Khan

Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai: Bollywood megastar Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai's closeness during the late 90s garnered widespread attention. Their on-screen romance in the movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was adored by fans and marked the beginning of their real-life love story. However, the couple ended their relationship in 2001, resulting in a highly publicised breakup. Just as their romance is remembered, Salman and Aishwarya's breakup is among the most memorable ones. After dating each other for two years, things turned sour between the stars.

In 2001, it was alleged that Salman was spotted banging on Aishwarya's house door and requesting that she let him in. And after much chaos and drama, she let him into her house. Many claimed that Salman wanted to propose marriage to Aishwarya, but she wasn't ready for it. Aishwarya in 2002, went public with her breakup with Salman Khan. Salman acknowledged that arguments were common in any relationship, but Aishwarya made shocking allegations, revealing that she had experienced physical, verbal, and emotional abuse from the Kisi Ka Bhai Kisiki Jaan actor. Despite her claims, Salman has denied any wrongdoing in various interviews.

SALAMAN KHAN AND AISHWARYA RAI'S UGLY BREAKUP

In an old interview with TOI, Aishwarya went into length and shared what happened between the two. In a lengthy statement, Aishwarya wrote, "For the sake of my well-being, my sanity, my dignity and the dignity and self-respect of my family - ENOUGH! I will not work with Mr Salman Khan. The Salman chapter was a nightmare in my life and I am thankful to God that it is over!"

She further added in her statement that she was there with Salman during his "enduring alcoholism, misbehaviour in worse phases, and in turn, I was at the receiving end of his abuse (verbal, physical, emotional), infidelity and indignity." She then called her relationship with Tiger 3 star "obnoxious experiences which incite washing dirty linen and other dirty truths"

Her old statement on her relationship with Khan read, "While I have maintained a dignified silence about him and his wrong-doings, he (his family and friends) has repeatedly attacked the respect, dignity, and pride of me and my family (with irresponsible rumour-mongering. I stood by him enduring alcoholism, misbehavior in worse phases and in turn, I was at the receiving end of his abuse (verbal, physical, emotional), infidelity, and indignity."

"That is why like any other self-respecting woman and God is witness, I said enough and ended it almost two years ago but because of a dignified silence, all have misrepresented my stand and spread rumours about my character and baselessly alleged affairs and tried to spoil healthy working relations with costars," she wrote.

Concluding her statement, Aishwarya said, "I do not want to get into the gory details and obnoxious experiences, which incite washing dirty linen and other ugly untruths. For a long time now, they have time and again tried to wreck my peace and sanity both personally and professionally. But they'll forget no one can play God because there is God! That is the only truth."

Multiple reports have also claimed that Aishwarya was removed from Shah Rukh Khan's Chalte Chalte following Salman Khan visiting her on the sets and shouting at her. It was also said that Salman doubted Aishwarya's having an affair with SRK.

Since then, Salman and Aishwarya have not worked together, nor do they ever speak of it.
