Mahira enjoys huge popularity in India as well after starring opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the 2017 film Raees. Although her career in Bollywood was short-lived, she continues to do some remarkable work in her country.
One of the highest-paid actresses in Pak, Khan was earlier married to her childhood sweetheart Ali Askari in 2007 and welcomed their son Azlan in 2009.
In a throwback interview with Pakistani news outlet Dawn News, Mahira revealed that she always wanted to become a movie star and that she landed in showbiz through her ex-husband, Ali Askari.
Speaking to the news outlet years ago, Mahira was asked how she managed to land in the showbiz world. She replied, saying that it all happened at her first husband's workplace. As per reports, Ali works at MTV Pakistan.
She had said, "Ali - who I am married to now - was working there. I was here for summer holidays and I would go to Indus TV to meet him there. And I would tell him that I would help him while he's working and that's how I ended up becoming a VJ. And I never wanted to be a VJ, but I always wanted to be a movie star."
She also shared, "As soon as I joined media, I got married but I got married to someone I had been with my whole life - since childhood. Whenever I felt insecure about myself, he was the one who told me that I was wrong."
Mahira and Ali parted ways in 2015, and their son Azlan is a 14-year-old teen now.
For the unversed, 38-year-old Mahira Khan began her career as a VJ with Most Wanted on MTV Pakistan in 2006. She also hosted AAG TV's reality show Weekends with Mahira in 2008.
In 2011, the diva made her film debut with the Atif Aslam-starrer Bol and later went on to become a household name with the daily soap Humsafar, opposite Fawad Khan.
