Esha Deol is busy planning the interiors of her room at her new bungalow in Goregaon from South Africa (she's in Cape Town shooting for Anubhav Sinha's Cash). And since her mother Hema Malini can't be too far away from her daughter, she's joined Esha on location too. We chat with Deol on what's new in her life.
Food for thought
She's been in South Africa for over three weeks now and is glad that her mother is finally here. Says Esha, "Earlier, Zayed (Khan) and the others would make some really good food. Since I can't cook, all I could do was help with washing the dishes. But now that amma is here, she's cooking hot rasam for me and I love it. We've all been given individual villas to stay in, so mom is living with me."
But even though she's thousands of miles away, she's still supervising the design of her room. She says, "Even though we have an architect, I'm doing my own thing. The interiors are very Mexican in style - wooden furniture with a minimalist look, with clean walls and lots of open space. Though we have a cook at home, I've installed a kitchenette in my bedroom where I will learn to cook now!"
When she's not shooting, Esha likes to have a go at the variety of adventure sports in Cape Town. "I love jet skiing, which I picked up in Goa. I play a reckless driver in Cash, so I enrolled in a motor training school here and have been burning a lot of rubber ever since. I've learnt how to do 180 and 360-degree handbrake turns which are so exciting. I showed mom the video of my driving skills and she totally freaked out. She was like, 'I don't think you should be doing this'!"
Esha's come to Cape Town straight from shooting for Meghna Gulzar's Baat Pakki in Ooty. In Baat Pakki, she plays a blushing bride very unlike her real life image. But Esha is quick to disagree. "No yaar. I think I have a split personality. I have a wild side to me, but I still love classical dancing and going to temples," she says.
Dancing with Amma
Come November and Esha will accompany Hema to several dance festivals. She says, "I love dancing and that's why I don't do too many films at a time. Mom has some dances shows lined up for me towards the end of the year, and is very strict about that. She sees to it that my dance isn't neglected, and I don't mind as I love dancing."
