Rajesh Khanna was highly drunk when he proposed Dimple for marriage!

In a documentary by BBC reporter Jack Pizzey made on the first superstar of Indian cinema - Rajesh Khanna, Devyani Chaubal revealed why she thought that Rajesh Khanna married such a young girl Dimple (Dimple was 16 when she married Rajesh Khanna). Devyani Chaubal was a very famous gossip columnist and Rajesh Khanna's friend. Devyani said that she feels it was a result of a drunken night and also Rajesh Khanna loved the feeling of importance which he got when he announced his engagement and marriage with Dimple.

Devyani Chaubal said that Rajesh Khanna called her up at 3 am to tell her that he is getting married to a girl, because Rajesh has promised her that whenever he plans to get married, Devyani would be the first person to know. She says that Rajesh Khanna was 14 pegs down and was highly drunk at that time. He told Devyani that he found a girl drowning in the sea and he saved that girl from drowning. He also said that he fell in love with the same girl.

In the documentary, Devyani also mentions that Rajesh Khanna loved the importance that he was getting from the media and fans after he announced his marriage to young Dimple Kapadia.
